"Fey!"
After a week of peaceful wayfaring. Fey and Asia had their first zombie attack. Asia knew it was bound to happen but Asia had been careless. She had been going to the river nearby for a little... you know what when Asia had been knocked over after zipping up her jeans. It put an arm around her mouth and was about to scratch her. Asia let out a small scream and bit the zombie. Not deep enough to swallow zomtoxin but enough for it to roll off of Asia. She bolted in the opposite direction of their campsite so that she wouldn't lead them to their camp. She hoped that Fey had heard her though and would come to help her. She was shoved against a tree and grunted with pain.
"You're going to regret biting me human. Maybe I'll kill you but I think turning you would be so much more fun."
He had dark red hair and his eyes were covered in brown contacts hiding the red beneath. The zombie looked 18, a little older than her. His clothes were torn and bloody.
"And you're going to regret hurting me when I kill you." Asia spat at him.
"I'm going to kill you," he said, clearly angry. His hand was just inches away from her exposed neck but he fell to the ground. There was an arrow in his back. Fey stood a few feet away breathing hard. "Your welcome."
Asia ran and hugged Fey, almost knocking her over. "I owe you my life."
"Shut up Asia, I don't want your life anyways." Fey teased but then tears began lowing down her cheeks. " I was almost too late. He was seconds away from killing you."
" We need to go right now Fey. He is going to wake up eventually."
They grabbed their backpacks, their tent, and walked on. They walked for 10 more hours and set up a new campsite far away from their old one. Asia was sleeping when she heard Fey's scream. Asia ran out of her tent and ran towards Fey. She was sobbing on the ground. A dead -well not really- zombie next to her. Asia knelt down and gently touched Fey.
"Fey. It's over. You stopped him."
Asia looked at the zombie. She recognized that dark red hair and turned to look at Fey.
"Fey... he's the one that almost..."
Asia trailed off when she saw the green scratch marks on Fey's ivory skin.
"I'm so sorry Asia. I wasn't able to kill him in time. I'm going to be turned in 12 hours," sobbed Fey.
And then the realization hit Asia instantly. Her best and only friend was going to try and kill her in the morning. Time stopped.

"Fey look at me. Stop crying." She told her. "You'll be okay." But Fey wouldn't be okay. Asia didn't know what to do.
"Asia. You have to kill me right now before the morning comes and I'll be unstoppable. Please end it for me, I don't want to be a zombie," cried Fey.
"Fey I love you like a sister. And I love you enough to not let you become a zombie but do you think you could wait for a cure?"
"Asia, there is no cure and you know that. It'll take years for a cure and you'll probably be dead by then." Fey had looked so hopeless and sad.
" Asia I'm sorry but I can't do that. I can't wait for a cure that will never come. You said you loved me enough to kill me. So please..." Fey handed Asia her knife.

Asia felt overwhelmed with guilt and despair. Wasn't it her fault now that Fey would be lost, she thought, what was I thinking. I should have left back at the orphanage. How could I have been so stupid?
Asia looked at the knife and then looked at Fey. Asia gave Fey a hug. "I'll find a cure one day Fey. I'll do it in your name. I'll miss you."
"Thank you Asia. And I believe in you," she said. Then Asia had plunged a knife through her best friend's heart.
