Things were getting better for them. There was always any one of the four vardhan, raghu, harsh or renuka with them, all the day. And in the night it was only the two of them soothing each other's pain resting in randhir's arms. Sanyukta never spoke of the loss of their unborn child to randhir, let alone speaking about pregnancy. May be that it'd hurt him or may be that she didn't have that guts to remind the loss to herself. Whatever it was, she chose to stay silent and she did. However neither of the four did spoke to randhir about the death of his unborn child. And then randhir never knew that sanyukta was pregnant at the time of the accident and had a miscarriage.
The accident had its part of impact on their professional life too, but Raghu and vardhan made work easier for sanyukta whilst harsh sprang back into action for randhir giving the duo the space they needed. Randhir began to recuperate, fastly. Faster because of the love he was being showered with but totally not because of the medical care alone.
Every thing went quite smooth and still till one fine morning when sanyukta woke up and couldn't feel her left toe anymore. For the first day she didn't take it much serious as she felt it could be because of inappropriate sleeping position that caused improper blood circulation but it didn't feel the same way when the same happened the next day too. The next day morning when she woke up she couldn't feel her whole left leg.
And the feeling instantly brought tears in her eyes. She looked aside and found randhir stirring in his sleep "randhir" she called out meekly stroking his cheek with her palm randhir woke up groggily but all his grogginess vanished when he saw tears in her eyes. It pained him more than anything. He immediately sat up and inquired her in a very low voice that his vocal chords could possibly afford without hurting his jaw
"I couldn't feel my leg." She cried like a kid. And it baffled randhir. Randhir completely had no idea on what was going with his wife yet he tried to soothe her. He wiped her tears and touched her left feet and it was stone cold. He looked at her "I can't feel your touch." She cried a little more.
"Okay. Don't cry. This must be probably because of inappropriate sleeping position that causes improper blood circulation" he mumbled swallowing words inbetween whenever his jaw hurt. She wasn't convinced with what ever he said. She was still crying.
Randhir silently took her leg and placed it in his lap. He began to massage her leg till it began to warm up and sanyukta suddenly felt a tinge of sensation in her leg.
"Can you feel it now?" he asked after an hour of massaging that left randhir's palm red with burning sensation. She smiled nodding like a kid.
"Thank you rain-deer... love youuuu" she sang crying and threw up her hands round his neck.
Later that day, sanyukta began to experience that senselessness again. There were a couple of situations that she staggered, toppled, and tripped over just that she couldn't feel her leg. But still at the end of the day she wished everything could be normal when she woke up the next day and this is all a temporary illness
That night before going to bed, sanyukta prayed for their well being and told randhir about her leg. Randhir nodded and decided to take her to the doctor the next day and he did. As the duo visited the doctor next day, sanyukta still couldn't feel her leg. The doctor studied her reports and asked her not to worry as it might be a later effect of the accident she met with and that it was harmless. The docter prescribed her medication for a week and reassured her that everything will be alright in a week. Sanyukta seriously hoped so. But the beats of her heart echoed something bad. Halfheartedly she nodded and smiled at the doctor and then at randhir.
Sanyukta regularly popped in the pills doctor had prescribed for one week every night and things began to turn up for better. The senselessnessness had gone and her legs were perfectly okay, healthy, fit and fine. Sanyukta regained her confidence and decided to spring back to her work as soon as possible and on the other hand randhir too recuperated faster than ever.
On the night of the Saturday sanyukta decided to leave for office from the Monday, so did randhir. Sanyukta had phoned raghu and informed him that she'd be back to work from Monday and asked him to arrange a meeting with the staff. She was all bubbling with joy and utter happiness. That night she didn't take the medicines that doctor had prescribed her. As it was the last day and moreover she felt okay so she ignored it and happily went to the bed not knowing that worst has yet to come for her the next morning.
The next morning with the raising sun sanyukta woke up, it felt perfectly alright. She looked at randhir, who was sleeping like a baby hugging his pillow with his mouth slightly open. Sanyukta smiled at him, sat up leaning against the bed post and ran her fingers through his mane. He twitched his head a bit, closed his mouth and jostled his lashes up at sanyukta. Sanyukta smiled at him and he returned her smile back. He moved closer and rested his head in her lap wrapping his hands round her waist. As soon as he did that the smile on sanyukta's face vanished and tears occupied her orbs instantly. He voice began to tremble badly as she tried to call out randhir's name. She tried hard and called him "randhir" but barely a squak escaped her mouth.
Randhir totally unaware of sanyukta's tears grabbed her hand and made her caress her hair. But something felt wrong for randhir as he did it. He felt sanyukta's hand quivering and cold. "sanyukta" he turned to face her and her tears made their way to randhir's cheeks the moment he did.
Randhir was astonished
"sanyukta" he hurriedly sat on the bed and cupped her face wiping her tears. "kya hua." He asked. Sanyukta nodded and began to sob loudly. Tears invoulantarily occupied randhir's orbs as he saw her crying. "Tell me na" randhir cried to.
Sanyukta nodded wiping her running nose and said "I couldn't feel your touch."
"What?" randhir shrieked but the fact he failed to understand was sanyukta lost the sense in both her legs. Randhir shifted a bit aside and dragged the duvet off her legs. It seemed quite normal. Randhir touched her feet and looked at sanyukta. She nodded a no still crying.
"It's... it's nothing baby... nothing let me give you a massage and you'll be okay" randhir said controlling himself and massaging her feet. But that turned futile as after an hour of massage randhir gave her, she still couldn't feel her legs. She cried more. She tried to move but couldn't. Crying, she grabbed her legs and tried to get down the bed. Randhir was watching her painfully. He wished he could have died rather than seeing his love struggling in pain.
Mean whilst sanyukta managed to sit on the bed with her legs towards the floor. Her feet were touching the floor but she couldn't feel it. Right from the down of her hips she couldn't feel any ssensation in her lower body and her body felt heavy. She looked at he legs which were lifelessly hanging down her body, pale and heavy. She looked at randhir who was crying more than her like a lost kid.
She gulped in her sobs, wiped her tears, wiped randhir's too and tried to stand up pressing her hands against the mattress. She stood up but the next moment she collapsed on the floor dissolving in to flood of tears. Randhir immediately rushed to her and cooped her in his arms. She hugged him ad cried some more before she said
"Help me randhir."
