------------

I looked in the mirror one last time before walking out of my room toward the gym. I was going to watch the tournaments that were on tonight.  They were a bigger version of what was going on in elemental class. The other cool part was that it would be like fliers versus metaporghesis-ers.  This only happened once a month and everyone was invited. I was technically the only person attending, besides the teacher, who wasn’t fighting. Only one challenge could take place at a time, so there were a lot of people who had to wait for their turn. That was good for me, because I’d most likely have someone to talk to and some to cheer on at all times.

Each team had a special jersey made for its players. Kyle’s team had white jerseys that most resembled the football ones. Each person had two, in case of them losing it or it getting blood on it, so Kyle gave me his extra to wear. I matched the white shirt with a pair of dark blue sweatpants and I wore a gray tang top under the slightly transparent top. It wasn’t very fancy, but I decided to show up looking like a Barbie in a room of sweaty people. There might be a few other people, who didn’t want to play, but I highly doubt it; even Apple and her friends signed up.

I walked through the door of the gym where my strength and speed classes take place. It was really crowded, and everyone in the room was facing the middle of the gym, that I couldn’t even see. I was about to start squeezing through people, when a loud shrill whistle was blown. I recognized it as the whistle that the coach blew. The gym was instantly quiet, and everyone was looking at the coach. He was on a floating platform right above the middle of the gym. He looked around in a circle and then started speaking,

“Good evening everyone, it’s nice to see your faces on school property after hours; when you’re not vandalizing it.”

That caused everyone to laugh and a few people to mutter names and smirk. After smiling at the people below, he continued,

“It’s nice of you guys to join us for the first Battle of the Powers of the year.”

After he finished that sentence, the rest of his speech was drowned out by the cheers.  When everyone settled down again, he told everyone to meet up with their assigned groups and get to their meeting spots. Everyone was going in different directions, and it was like a huge hover-car jam. After about 10 minutes, the gym was empty besides me and the teachers. I just stood there awkwardly waiting for someone to come and talk to me. I didn’t have to wait long, because Ms. Lillian came over to me and said,

“Hi Addyson, why aren’t you with your group? “

I answered, “I don’t have a power Ms. Lillian, so I don’t have a group.”

She replied,

“That’s ridicules; no one should miss out on the fun. I see that you already have a jersey, so if you wait here I will add you into a group.”

I stayed where I was for about 5 minutes before Ms. Lillian called me over to where she was talking with the coach. When I got there, coach said,

“Addy, you’re going to go in a group of mixtures. You friend Julius is on the team along with one of the other girls I see you hanging out with. I think you’ll fit in there and I’ll no longer have to bend the rules to let the team play; you see they didn’t have enough players and I was supposed to disqualify them.”
