Living in the same state, the same city yet I felt equally as distant to him as I did family members that lived miles away. His ability to get up and leave when he wanted to, then come back like nothing ever happened was indescribable. I hated him. At least I wanted to. However, it wasn't easy. Simply hating someone who was once everything to you. He lingered around me; an aura that I couldn't escape no matter how hard I shrugged it off. I simply couldn't get rid of him. No matter how hard I tried, we always crossed paths yet again.

Justin
The line went dead and her angelic voice was no longer ringing in my ears. Hurt was evident in her voice and it made my heart cringe. I was the reason for it. Tightening my jaw I pressed the power button and stuffed the device back into my pocket. Staring at the imprinted name one more time, I ran a hand through the length of my hair and turned around. My eyes searched the joint until they met with a side eye. A man at least twice my age, eyed me. His hands crossed, resting over his chest and a deadpan expression written on his face. He dressed differently from the other employees. Almost as if he was superior. Chewing the inside of my stared at him for a moment before stuffing my hands into my pockets. Searching for anything in his eyes seems impossible. It was almost as if he mastered the arts, he couldn't be read if he didn't allow it. Nodding in his direction, I began to leave, my eyes glued to him before the chiming sound filled the floor, indicating I was exiting the joint.
The city was the city. Hesitantly to say, in all honesty. I hated it but it became everything to me, everything and more. In my mind the city was ideally mine for the taking. I didn't have a problem with it and it had no problem with me. Licking my lips, I took in the busy streets and glanced at a few attractive figures as they passed.

  I wasn't going back to Santiago's.
The fact that I was distant was make her go crazy and the the outcome would simply be a pointless argument.

I wasn't going home either. My thoughts would be the death of me.

So as I looked left to right, I nodded and chose a direction to walk in. Where I went or who I was with didn't matter. As long as it wasn't home or Santiago's.
