"So want to come over to mine?" Cara asks while grabbing the books she needs for her first class out of her locker. "We could have a marathon since you can't play today." I shake my head no.
The doctor decided I can walk but I shouldn't play soccer for the rest of the season, I will kill Julie. But I was still going to the game to watch and be an assistant coach, it was also because I was trying to avoid Daniel.
"No, uh, I'm helping out with the game tonight and practice after school." How do you tell your best friend you wanted to kiss her brother?
"I honestly don't know how she hasn't gotten home yet," Daniel apologizes while taking the winding road that lead to my house. "I'll make sure she calls."
"It's no big deal." I smile at him. When we get to my house he lets out a low whistle and I give him a tight smile. "Thanks I think I can make it to the door on my ow-"
"It's okay," he waves me off and comes around the car to help. "I want to help." A tiny smile graces my lips as he helps me up to my door step.
"Well thanks," I look up at him and smile. I furrow my eyebrows and look at him. "How are you getting home?"
"Just going to walk," I start shaking my head and ramble about letting him take my car, but he grabs my face with his hands. "It okay, I'll see you around."
We stayed right there for a few minutes just looking at each other. I wanted him to kiss me, I needed him to kiss me. Hell I met him yesterday, but all the tingles that spread through my body when he said my name or touched me.
I couldn't believe how him and Cara always fou-
Cara. No, no, no! I turn my head away and clear my throat. He is my best friends brother, most likely a player, and only wants one thing.
"I should go. Thanks."
"Serena!" Cara snaps her fingers in front of my face and I shake my head. "You okay, sweet cheeks?"
"Oh yeah sorry, let's get to class." I grab her arm and start pushing through the masses of kids and to our science class.
Mrs. Jean sat at her desk and shuffled through her papers. We were probably just reviewing for testing next week.
"Why are you avoiding my house?" Cara asks while turning to me in her desk.
"I am not," I say a little defensively.
"I have asked you all week to come over, and you always have some lame excuse. What's wrong?" I met her eyes and saw all the worry and fear
"W-what would you say if, hypothetically, I told you me and your brother had a little moment?" I ask. My words are rushed and I close my eyes after I say it. When she doesn't reply, I peek just a little. Let's just say I was a little surprised.
Instead of looking disgusted or mad she had a huge smile across her face. "Ooo what happened? Wait don't tell me, that's my brother. So when the first date?"
I choked on a my spit and ducked when a few people in class turned to stare. "Wait? Your happy?" I am now completely confused. In situations like this, something always blows up in their faces. Nothing is ever so... easy.
"Of course I am! He has never showed interest in anyone! And you refuse to date anyone! You guys are perfect." She gushes and slaps my arm.
"I never said I wanted to date him," Cara instantly stops jumping around "I'm avoiding your house because I don't want it to be awkward." I can visibly see her sadness.
"Pop quiz!" Our teacher cheers happily and begins to pas out the paper. "No talking for the duration of class."
I walked into the cafeteria, still with a small limp, and made my way to the lunch line. The first four classes were uneventful, especially because I didn't have Cara for the last three.
Making my way down the line I grab a tray of chicken nuggets and fries, Sprite, and brownie. "That'll be $3.25."
I start digging through my bag when a arm reaches in front of me and gives the lunch lady money. "I've got it."
I clench my jaw and go to walk away but he pulls me back. "Is that any way for thank me?" He jokes and brushes hair away from my face. "Or away to say hello, I've been gone for how long?"
"And you've been back for how long?" I snap and look around to see most of the cafeteria trying to watch. Whispering and guessing what's going to happen. "Zach, just leave me alone. It's been more than a year, I've moved on."
I walk away and go to the table were I usually sit.
"What was that?" Britney instantly asks. she was my cheer teams co-captain and lived in Cara's "neighborhood". "Are you guys gonna patch things up?"
"Wouldn't you like to know." She was always digging for gossip and loved to spread it. As long as she was the center of attention and no shade was thrown her way. "And no, we aren't." She pouts and turns to talk to Jillian.
I looked around the table for Cara. There was David, Andrew, Matthew, Tristan, Fiona, Julie, Elizabeth, Maria, Stacey, Lucilia, Gwen, and Karen.
"Anyone see Car?" I ask a little worried.
"Oh," Britney jumps up. "I heard from this guy Romero, who was taking with his friends Kevin, who's girlfriend is in Mr. Marcos fourth peri-"
"Just answer the damn question," I snap.
"Well she got called to the office in fourth period." Britney rolls her eyes and huffs.
I got up and walked out and into the hallways. When I got to the office I was surprised when I saw it empty. Where were they? I was about to walk in when I heard my name.
I turned and shrieked when I saw Cara right behind me. "When did you get there?!" My voice was a screech and multiple octaves higher than usual.
"Sorry, I saw you and wanted to see what you were doing," she smiles. I look into her eyes and it is full of alarm. She was hiding something from me.
"Oh, I got to lunch and you weren't there. Britney said you were called to the office, wanted to see if you were okay." I looked around and saw a few large guys standing at the entrance staring at us, watching our every move. "Well are you ready to go?"
"I'm so sorry, S. I have some family stuff, I'll call when I can." She hugs me then walks off, leaving me in and empty hall. Very confused.
"Where is Cara?" Mathew asks as soon as I sit down at the table.
"She had stuff to do, don't know when she will be back." They all just shrugged it off and went back to their conversations and food. But there was one thing I couldn't get over.
How did the clumsiest person I know sneak up on me? Why was the girl I told my soul to hiding something from me? And why did it look like spots of blood on the blue shirt she was wearing.
