Russell and I were on the way back to my sister's. It was pitch black out and very late. The need to check my phone had completely disappeared once I went into Russell's, back to the point where it was dead again. Sean was probably texting me to make sure everything was good here and to set up a date on when he could come visit me. I didn't know whether I was excited or nervous as hell for him to come visit me. I was scared someone was going to somehow find out and somehow it would get to Sean. I couldn't lose him. I really couldn't.

"You look pretty worried, I hope it wasn't, you know, bad or anything?" He asked, sheepishly. This was not the Russell I knew. Not at all.

"No, it was great... it was better than great, honestly," This made him smile. "I'm just worried about someone coming to visit me is all." I wasn't quite sure whether I could trust Russell with all my innermost thoughts and feelings, but something about him in this state made him feel promising. Like I could really trust him. Which was totally unusual.

"Oh, I got you," He said. I couldn't tell whether his voice was mocking or whether it was full of sadness. Maybe it was a combination of both. Why the hell would Russell care if Sean was coming to visit anyway? He knew we were together, this wasn't new news at all. "The infamous, amazing, rapper Big Sean, or Big Daddy Sean, whatever you like to call him."

"I've actually never called him that, I have never called him daddy before," I admitted, giggling.

"Oh, so your first time calling a man that was tonight? With me? Totally honored, Monica, really," I shoved him and rolled my eyes.

"Nothing happened between us," I reminded him, sending a wink his way. He tried to smile, but it came out as more of a twisted movement of his mouth before he looked down and towards the road. He didn't say anything else. "But he said when he came he wanted to go to a Thunder game. So we can come watch you play. I've never actually been to a basketball game before so that should be cool." Nothing. Not a word. I wanted to continue to pry him open. What was he being so fussy about anyways? "Okay so tell me. And I know nothing about basketball so please don't be offended. But your house is huge and I had never really heard about you before so I thought you must have been a mediocre player..."

He cut me off before I could continue at all, "You must live under a fucking rock or just be plain fucking stupid." Our night had been going so great and I really thought I had hit a soft spot with Russell and we were getting somewhere. Maybe not, maybe I was completely wrong. This man was just a total mystery. His tone had hurt my feelings and I tried not to let it show, but I could assume it was fairly obvious. I didn't say anything else after that. Prying Russell Westbrook was not a good idea. "I'm a fucking all-star, thank you very much. Leader last season of triple doubles. I don't settle for mediocre anything." I didn't say anything to that. I didn't want too. If Russell wanted to be an asshole, I would let him be an asshole, but I wouldn't acknowledge it at all.

The rest of the car ride was complete silence before we turned into my sister's driveway, where the big stone house stood in front of us. He parked the car and turned it off, unbuckling his seat belt. "I'll walk you in."

"You don't have too, I don't think anything will happen to me from here to the front door," I replied, snottily. He acted as if he didn't hear what I just said as he stepped out of the car, motioning me towards the door. I took out my keys and shook my head, breezing past him. He grabbed my wrist, spinning me around to face him.

"Don't touch me," I warned.

"You weren't saying that an hour ago, babe," He added, chuckling. "Why are you so mad? Tell, Daddy."

I huffed. "One second you're calling me fucking stupid and the next you're offering to walk me up to my doorstep? I don't fucking understand you, Russell."

"I told you I enjoy being mysterious, being a little unpredictable," We were both just standing there in the middle of the sidewalk. In that moment, I just wanted to shut him up by pressing my lips upon his, but I didn't dare. "You claim you don't understand me, but you do, Monica, you do. Me and you we are different. I am not like all the Barbie people, the fake people, that you surround yourself with. You want to be like them. You want to date a rapper, have all the fancy clothes, fancy cars, be a model... but you are not like that." I yanked my arm from his grasp and walked down the sidewalk. He still trailed behind me. I shoved the key into the lock and pushed open the door in a swift motion. He followed me inside. I stopped once I saw Desiree and Sean sitting in the foyer.

"Monica, where the hell were you? I have been calling you all night!" She said, standing up, crossing her arms across her chest.

"Monica, baby!" Sean yelled, giving me a huge hug and a kiss on the lips, he looked behind me to see Russell. "You're hanging out with Russell Westbrook now? Damn, lucky you. What's up? I'm Sean!" Sean stuck his hand out for Russell to shake, and Russell shook it slowly. I sent Russell a glare. Russell pursed his lips and gave him a small smile.

"I'm good, man, very good, how about you?" Sean just nodded and didn't say anything else.

"Monica, I didn't know you knew Russell," Sean said, "Small world."

"Oh, no, I just met Monica, she's helping me with some legal work. She's so great, she was helping me work overtime and we didn't even realize it had gotten so late... Our bad," He added, shrugging and laughing casually. I thought Russell was going to act arrogant or crazy, but he was casual oddly enough. This was good. Very good.  "Oh, Monica, I think you left a couple folders in my car."

"Oh, right, silly me," I pretended to slap myself in the face, as I walked out of the house. Russell followed me out and I prayed Sean nor Desiree we're going to follow. They didn't. Russell closed the door behind him and chased after me.

"Well this is just great," He said, sarcastically.

"Really, thank you for being so cool in there," I thanked him, the sincerity full in my eyes. "I mean, if we get past everything else between us, Sean is a really cool guy."

"It's not like I'm going to be friends with him, Monica," Russell said.

"I know, I would actually prefer you guys not to be friends," I told him with a small smile. "I thought I was going to have an anxiety attack right there, you guys hanging out would... not be good."

"As if we already didn't have to sneak around enough, now he's actually here," Russell said, negatively. Here we go.

"Russell," I began, rolling my eyes. He cut me off before I could say anymore.

"No, Monica," He shook his head.

"I can go over to your house."

"How are you going to get away from him without him getting suspicious or wanting to stay with you?" Russell asked me.

"Well, he's doing a few appearances here, I could go over then or we can go to his venues."

"Like together? That is way too obvious, Monica," Russell shook his head, "if he sees us together often, he will begin to wonder what the hell is happening between us. And I don't want the guy to think I have feelings for you or anything, hell no." I couldn't help the feeling of a sharp pain in my chest when he said that and my stomach dipping. Right. Of course. I didn't know why I thought the nice Russell I had grown to love was going to last. And I don't know why I felt that at all. Russell was not even a friend... He was just a man that wanted to fuck around with me. He didn't even want to be my friend. Why my emotions were getting involved, I didn't know and I didn't want to find out. "Goodnight, Monica."
