"Why did we have to get here so damn early?" I asked Sean as he came back to our court side seats with some beer and chips. Not that many people were even in the stadium yet, we walked in right when the doors opened. Russell and Kevin Durant (after conducting some research on him) were already out on the court with a few other players practicing before the game. Nobody from the Wizards team was out on the court yet.
"You're not gonna wish Russell a good game?" Sean asked me, pointing to Russell as he took a shot from the three point line and made it in.
"If he walks over here," I said, plainly adding a shrug as if I didn't even care he was here. Having Sean and Russell in the same building as it is was stressful enough. It was more than stressful. I was shaking. My hands were shaking and my hands were very sweaty. Russell and Kevin walked to the sideline and were talking under their breaths. They both looked to me at the same time and I looked away. Oh God, they were talking about me. Was Russell telling him I was the mystery girl? The girl he had been fooling around with? The girl that he called beautiful?
"Oh, good, Russell's walking over here," Sean said as I looked up quickly, sure enough to see Russell making his way over here. Oh god. My pulse began to beat uncontrollably as I tried to take calming breaths. I smiled and waved at Russell, as he sarcastically smiled and waved back imitating me. I rolled my eyes and he smiled back at me. He dapped Sean up first, as Sean stood up and gave the man a quick hug. Russell wanted that to end quickly. I stood up and gave him a quick hug.
"I hope you break a leg," I wished Russell luck as he chuckled. Sean looked at me raising his eyebrows.
"That's in theater, Mo, not basketball," Russell told me, pretending to ruffle my hair, but I swatted his arm out of the way.
"Ruffle my hair again and I will break your leg myself," I warned him, crossing my arms across my chest. Russell and I's relationship really had been changing for the good but also the weird. I knew I could never get used to it. Soon, he would go back to being the dick he normally is. His moods changed too drastically and often for me to be comfortable with him.
"So are you and Durant gonna pick the W tonight?" Sean piped up, involving himself in the conversation. Sean must have really been suspicious now, Russell and I were playing around right in his face. But friends did that, right?
"I sure as hell hope so, man," Russell said, looking back to Durant, who I had noticed had been continuously looking over here at us. Lord, I didn't know Kevin, I had never even met him, but I prayed that if Russell did anything stupid, he would come to the rescue. As far as I was concerned, Russell was the most unpredictable person on the planet. That's what scared me the most about him. "We have won the past eleven games and the Wizards are pretty simple."
"Don't get too cocky," I warned him, laughing.
He smirked at me, "You know all about that, don't you?" Blood rushed to my cheeks as my heart began to beat fast. He smiled at me and I burst into laughter to play it off. I started him down and he smiled at me before looking back to Sean. "So what have you been doing while you've been here?"
"Nothing much, we have just been chilling," Sean told Russell with a smile. "She's been cooking for me a lot which has been nice. I really did miss her cooking."
"Oh, yeah!" Russell said, rubbing his chin, "She brought me some cookies one time. God, I would die for Mo's cookies." I glared at Russell, daggers in my eyes. "Oh, Sean, do you wanna see the locker room before the game? I could give you a tour." Before I could stop either of them, both were walking away towards the locker room. As if on cue, Kevin Durant sat in the seat next to me.
"I'm Kevin," he greeted, "you're the mystery girl, Mo." I shook his outstretched hand and smiled.
"That should be me," I admitted.
