"Well, I'm glad to see you are okay, I was really worried," I said, smiling at her. She smiled back and squeezed my hand.
"I wasn't about to die on you that easy, sis," She smiled and cleared her throat. Her voice was a little raspy and overall, she looked down.
"Well, right now, it's important you get rest. That's what really matters," Sean said from the other side of the bed, holding her hand. I was trying to ignore him the best I could, but that was virtually impossible. "We lost the baby already, you know, I can't lose her too, so it's probably not best to talk about death right now." I glared at him and rolled my eyes.
"I was just worried, I didn't need unnecessary commentary nor did I ask for it," I snapped, pursing my lips and looking away from him. "But, how do you feel overall? Is everything okay?"
Desiree opened her mouth to say something, but Sean cut her off, "She's fine."
"She can talk for herself and I didn't ask you," I snapped once again. I could tell she was very uncomfortable in this situation. I was so tired of Sean being in my life, it wasn't even funny. "Why don't you go back on tour or something?"
"At least I actually have something to do and make a living instead of working for Mommy and Daddy's company," He taunted me, sarcastically. Why did he persist on trying me like this?
I opened my mouth to say something, but Desiree placed her hand over mine and gave me a reassuring smile, "Is Russell here? How is he doing?" She was desperately trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, he's sitting right outside—"
"Aw, why doesn't he come in?" She smiled, politely. What was she trying to do? Was she trying to start a war between Sean and Russ?
"Yeah, why doesn't the grand dickhead get in here?" Sean asked, sarcastically. He walked away from Desiree, who watched his movements towards the doorway. I saw him lean out of the doorway, and shout to Russell. "Would you look at who it is! Come on in, the room has been way too jubilant! We need an asshole to really get the energy going. Come on in."
My face paled tremendously and I looked down to Desiree, whose eyes were filled with fear, knowing she made a big mistake. Russell walked in, glaring at Sean, but quickly putting on a fake smile for Desiree and nodding in her direction. "Are you feeling alright? Mo and I were pretty worried about you."
"She's fine," Sean stressed through gritted teeth again, not letting Desiree talk and answer for herself. Russell shot him a look and looked back towards Desiree, waiting for her answer.
"I'm feeling okay," She answered honestly, "We lost the baby, of course, which is traumatizing... But I thank you for everything and for even thinking about me. I know you have been running Mo and I around and you have seen and been through probably more than you would ever want too. Thank you so much. I'm sorry you were stuck with us two."
"Don't be sorry," He said, sitting down in the chair in the corner of the small room, "Yeah, I've seen and been through a lot... But, hey, I wouldn't want to be stuck with anyone else. I love your sister more than anyone and you two are a really fun bunch, believe it or not—"
I couldn't help the smile that had spread across my face, but it was soon diminished when Sean cut Russell off and began to start talking again. "Man, cut the shit. We get it. 'Oh, I love her so much', 'She's so amazing', 'She's the most beautiful girl in the world'... Cut it out, man, no one is buying your shit. We all know this is all just a gig to keep fucking Mo—"
Russell's eyes turned dark and he watched Sean. "Don't call her Mo."
I stood in shock, not knowing what to do or what to say. I knew Sean was no match for Russell and part of me wanted to watch how this would play out. Russell had a way with words, but I didn't want to find out if Russell had a way with his fists. I was hoping he had that much self control. "I was calling her that before you even knew of her existence, pal."
