'Make-up' cliché

Ok, we've all read a book with the evil cheerleader mean girl.

We know she has a uber-crush on the main guy, she hates the protagonist, she's rich, she wears designer clothes...

AND MAKEUP.

Ok, so why is it that now if we where makeup we're 'sluts', 'mean-girls', 'cheerleaders'?

Honestly, I don't like makeup that much. But that doesn't mean i think everyone who wears makeup is a demon in disguise!

And in a lot of books, the protagonist is quite hypocritical.

8:01 am

I put on some foundation, then applied lipstick to my lips. I stared into the mirror to make sure I hadn't gone over my Cupid's Bow. Satisfied, I applied some blush to my cheeks, and applied the 'smoky eye', which seemed like the new trend in makeup. After outlining my eyes with the eye pencil, I brushed some mascara onto my eye-lashes and packed up my makeup stuff. Then I went to school.

12:31pm

"Yo Momma so fat, when she finished walking past the TV, my show was over!" Brittany sneered, hands on her hips.

"Yo Momma so dumb, when she was locked in the supermarket, she died of starvation!" I retorted.

"Well guess what, you get your ugly looks from Yo Momma!" Brittany replied.

"I heard you wanted to loose weight--you'd lose a couple of pounds if you took that makeup off!" I laughed, staring in distaste at her lipgloss and smoky-eye. Slut.

Now, the appropriate response of the Mean Girl would be:

"Have you looked in the mirror lately? It's not that Anti-Pimple cream keeping your zits away--its the four pounds of Foundation you've got on!"

And if the Mean Girl was as sharp and witty as she supposed to be, she would say that.

But no, instead:

Brittany looked stunned.

"Well...Yo--Yo--Yo..." then she burst into tears and ran away crying for her mummy.

What even...

HOW DOES THAT EVEN OFFEND HER?

AND HOW IS MAKING FUN OF MAKEUP 'COOL' OR 'WITTY'?

I think those characters need to get their act together...
