Lillian turned to look at Ryan as he drove to the Italian restaurant, “Wanna explain to me what your planning?’.
He chuckled and looked at her for a quick second, “Planning? I don’t know what you mean, I thought I would just take you out to eat.”
“With Duncan?”, she asked. “Who came up with the idea.”.
He shrugged and took one hand off the steering wheel, mumbling something but it sounded like he had mash potato in his mouth. She looked at him for a second with a look like she knew he was up to something—she isn’t sure what, but she knows it’s something not good.
When they arrived, Lillian grabbed a bored looking Zane and he pressed himself closer to her, protecting himself from the cold as they went over to the restaurant that size of a normal pizza parlor. Lillian looked around for Duncan, but she didn’t see him.
“Huh, he’s late.”, Ryan said, putting his hands on his coat pocket. “I expected it.”.
She gave him a bored look, shook her head, and sat down so they could wait for him. She bounced Zane on her thigh and he slugged forward, looking like he rather be at home watching SpongeBob on TV.
Five minutes passed, “He’s late, I mean, we just can’t wait here all nig—ahh, crap!”, Ryan said, quickly catching the thing that fell out of his pocket when he took his hands out and caught it before Lillian could see what it was. All she saw was that it was black.
“What was that?”, Lillian asked as her eyebrows came together.
“Nothing.”, he avoiding the question as he looked away. Before she could say anything, he looked out the window, “Oh there he is!”, he said and the door opened with Duncan coming in.
“Sorry I’m late, I had to do a few things my mom asked me to do.”, he said.
“We’ve be waiting.”, Ryan said. Lillian got up and placed Zane on her hip as her and Duncan walked behind Ryan over to the cashier and Duncan gave Lillian like he was asking if Ryan was forreal. “Hey, table for three.”
“Okay, follow me.”, she said and took them over to a booth. “Highchair for the boy?”, she asked, pinching Zane tiny chubby cheeks.
Lillian nodded, “Yes, thank you.”.
Ryan took Zane and held his arm out for her to go in first. She hesitated at first but slid in and sat down next to her. Ryan held Zane close to him as he watched Duncan look uncomfortable until the waitress came back with a high chair and Ryan strapped Zane in.
She took their drinks and they were allowed to go up the buffet
