Lillian stared up at the ceiling, thinking back to the night when she woke up bleeding two week ago. She had this really bad feeling in her stomach like really bad cramping and she woke up to it. She felt something wet against her thighs and turned on the lights. She pulled the blankets and saw she was bleeding threw her pajama short.
She woke Ryan up panicking and he helped her to the hospital. After what felt like days, the doctor came back later early morning and told her that she miscarried at sixteen weeks. They would have had another son if she didn't. All she remember from that day is crying and crying. After crying, she was numb and slept.
When she came home, she just went straight to the room and laid there all day. She doesn't even think she ate. She felt bad for ignoring Zane for the first couple of days, but it took a big toil on her. She finally came out of the state but she was still depressed about it.
Of course Ryan was there to comfort her and love her, but all she could do was think about the other son they were going to have. She never thought she would have to go threw a miscarriage, she didn't realize how hard it would be on her.
Zane woke up from his nap and said he was hungry. She got up from the couch and made him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with some milk. She sat down next to him and watched him eat, wondering what have ever happened if she lost Zane. The tears quickly stung her eyes, but she blinked them back, stop thinking about that horrible painful thought.
She leaned over and kissed his head, “I love you so much, Zane.”, she said and he gave her a cheeky dimple smile, making her smile back at him.
. . .
Lillian was cooking dinner when the front door of the apartment open. She hasn't made dinner in two weeks, so it felt like it was time to do it again and hopefully show Ryan she was doing a little better. Ryan was now considered a newbie at the station as a police officer, so he worked a lot longer now and she wanted to give him a good meal.
“Hey, Lil, can you come here?”, Ryan asked.
“Sure.”, she said, turning the heat that was cooking the chicken off
She turned around and walking into the kitchen, but froze when she saw something in his arm wrapped in a towel. Her mouth opened a little, staring at the wrapped up thing she couldn't see. “Ryan?”
Ryan smiled and walked over to her, uncovering the small little creature in the bundle, “Josie had her pups today, but she had one to many and this little guy didn't have a nipple for him. I thought who could take care of him better then you?”, he asked and the little newborn German Sherpherd made a squeaky noise in his arm, making her heart burst.
Her eyes stung up and she burst in to tears, quickly but gently taking the newborn puppy from him into her arms, “Oh, my God.”, she said, smiling as tears came down her face. “I can't believe you Ryan.”
“Do you want him?”, he asked, scratching behind the pup tinny tear.
Tear just rushed down her face and she was to choked up to even answer, but she nodded quickly. She brought the pup up to her face and kissed the top of his head. She felt so much happiness in her heart, she felt alive again after two weeks. She couldn't stop crying though, that's how happy she was.
She then thought of something, “Wait. What is he going to eat? He's a newborn, how is he going to eat?”
“Already on top of that, it's why i'm a little late tonight.”, he said, grabbing a bag that was on the couch she didn't realized was there. “I stopped at PetSmart and got puppy formula with a bottle.”
After getting the bottle ready, Ryan took the puppy, “Since he was the runt of the liter, he's very small so you will have to feed him at least every three hours. The lady told me how to feed him, so watch closely.”, he said and Lillian did as he held the pup and opened his mouth, putting the small bottle nip in his tiny mouth, feeding him.
Zane watched with curiosity on the floor, “He is yours, mommy?”
“He's our, Zane.”, Lillian said.
“Oh.”, he said, watching the puppy. “What is he called?”
“We don't know yet.”, Ryan said. “Mommy, what should we call him?
Lillian thought for a moment, “Hmm, I don't know.”, she said. “I like Blake.”
Ryan shrugged, “Eh, it's your choice, I got him for you.”
He eyebrows came together, “You don't like the name Blake?”
“Uh.”, he froze for a second. “I like it if you like it that bad.”
“No then.”, she said. “I want us to agree on a name.
They kept going back and forth with name but they couldn't agree on one. She can't believe how hard it is to choose a name for one small little puppy but she didn't want to call him some dumb made up name. She wanted a strong good name for him.
“Dash?”, Zane suddenly said and Lillian looked at Ryan, pleased with the name Dash.
He shrugged and smile, “Dash is real good. How'd you come up with that, Zane?”
Zane just shrugged his shoulders and went back to watching the puppy feed.
