“I'm so dumb.”, Lillian said as she brought her hand up to her forehead and threw her back against Tamara couch. “Why'd I kiss him?”
“Hey, don't beat yourself over it.”, Tamara said.
“How can I not?”, Lillian asked. “I have never felt so guilty, I cheated on Ryan.”
“Technically your both on a break from what you told me.”, she said, throwing a piece of candy in her mouth.
“Tam, would you say the same if it was me if I kissed another girl?”, Kale asked.
Her nose scrunched up as she glared at him, “Okay, I get the point, but Lil, you broke it. You knew it was wrong so you stopped him. You love Ryan, right?”,
“Yes.”, she said.
“But do you like Duncan?”, she asked
Lillian hesitated, thinking about it. Does she like Duncan? Duncan is sweet, caring, and charming, but does her feelings for him add up to her feelings for Ryan? She pictured them next to each other and her heart raced more Ryan. She will always see Duncan as a friend.
“No, I don't.”, she said. Zane knocked something over and it made a loud sound, making him and Julianna both cry. Lillian got got and picked him up, apologizing for him for knocking over a pile of DVD's. She held him against her chest and he stopped his crying as he held onto her.
“Anyways.”, she said as she handed Julianna to Kale. “You explain to Duncan you both can never be more then friends and if he doesn’t respect that, you know this time not to forgive him.”.
Lillian just nodded, knowing she was right.
. . .
When Lillian went to school the next day, she saw Duncan at his locket and he looked up from his phone when she was near. He lowered it and she straighten her back, clearing her throat, “Duncan, we need to talk.”
He closed his locker and leaned against it, “Okay.”.
She took a deep breath cause she knew if she didn't, she wouldn't have asked, “Do you like me?”, she asked.
“Yes.”, he said and she shyly looked away.
“Well you know it'll never work.”, she said without any emotions. She was trying to keep it quick and fast. “I still love Ryan.”
“Oh come on, Lil—“
“Will you respect that?”, she asked, cutting him off and he looked at her confused. “You either respect that I love Ryan and wont kiss me again, or we can't be friends again. We can't be friends if you don't respect that.”
He didn't say anything and that was making her anxious, “No going another way, huh?”
“No.”, she said. “You've been a good friend to me, helped me out so much and I thank you for that.”
“Your a great girl, Lillian.”, he said. “I guess I shouldn't have gotten to close, I do have a thing for sweet shy girls.”
Lillian face redden, but she kept the confident act up, “Will you be friend and only my friend? That means we can't study anymore either, I'll have to find someone else to help me.”
“I messed it all up, didn't I?”, he asked, looking hurt a little.
Lillian licked her nervous lips, “We both did in a way.”, she said as she walked around him to leave.
. . .
When Friday came along, Lillian was at Jeanette house. It was one of those rare nights she could have her freedom for a little and Lillian and Jeanette haven't had much time to hang out. With Jeanette still being a part of the 'it' crowd and Lillian with Zane, they barley spoke much, so it was nice of them to hang out once and awhile.
