"Hey Koichi, I talked to Mitzuko's parents and we're going over to their house for dinner today. Koichi? Earth to Koichi."
I wake up from my train of thought.
Wait did she say Mitzuko?
"What?"
"We're going over to Mitzuko's house for dinner."
No.
...
As we walk up to her door I begin to FREAK OUT. She just randomly kissed me today and now I'm going over to her house? Maybe she didn't and this is all just part of my imagination or something.
My dad rings the doorbell.
There's no going back now.
...
Mitzuko's mom answers the door with a big smile on her face. Honestly it only makes her look even more upset because I know she trying to hide her sadness. I just wonder what it is that she's upset about...
As we walk in Mitzuko runs down the stairs but as we make eye contact she slows her pace.
Her face is bright red.
"Mitzuko why don't you take Koichi upstairs. I'm sure he'd be interested in you new video game."
Mitzuko and I used to play video games together. It was what I looked forward to everyday since I never was able to see her. Video games were our bridge that held our lives together. Without them I wouldn't have been able to make any contact with her in those few years we were apart.
"Sure", she says quietly. I follow her up the stairs.
...
As I enter her room I observe that it is surprisingly empty. She has her bed against one wall, her desk against another, and a small T.V. next to her closet.
Other than the lack over furniture there seems to be a lack of decoration as well. Her wall is still painted the same way it was when she was younger, a rainbow that spreads across the wall surrounded by white clouds and a blue background.
The only thing other than that are two pictures on her desk, one of her and her mother, and another one that is flipped over to where I can't see.
...
We stand there awkwardly in silence until she turns around to where her back is facing me and begins to speak.
"Koichi.... I'm really sorry."
