" Come on, I'm hungry and need some breakfast. "
Both Rhett and Link walked out and Rhett took a deep breath, feeling the warm morning air through his nose.
" Take a couple of breaths, it'll make you feel better. Trust me. " Rhett smiled, running his fingers through his hair.
Link carefully stepped out and did as Rhett said, and it did make him feel better. Rhett waved him over and pointed at the gas station 40 feet away.
" Where are we? " Link asked.
" About 30 miles from the California state border. "
" Are we going back home? "
" Yep. But I've come up with yet another mission for us. And this time we Can't get caught for it. "
" What about that gun incident? " Link blushed.
" It's Vegas! They forget about within a week. "
Link laughed a little. Once his hangover calmed down a little he noticed how hungry he was.
" Dude, I think I could use some breakfast too. "
Rhett smiled and put his hand firmly on Links shoulder.
" I knew you'd come around. Let's go. "
Inside the gas station it was warm and bright, Link put his hand above his eyes to protect them from the light, he still had a little bit of a headache. When the door slammed shut behind them a young man dressed in a flannel shirt and jeans came out from a door behind the counter. He had red hair, a little bit of a farmers tan and a green, bent back baseball cap on his head.
" Hey, you again. " He smiled. " And you've got your friend with you. You two really look a lot like them. "
Link looked up at the man and extended his hand.
" The name's Neal, Link Neal. " He chuckled.
" Broody, Broody Green. " The man behind the counter said and shook Links hand.
" Rhett, Rhett McLaughlin. " Rhett said, also shaking the mans hand.
" Even your names are alike. " Broody said. " How about some breakfast? "
Both Rhett and Link nodded and followed Broody into the room he came out from in the first place.
" Have a seat. " Broody said and put cereal, milk, bread, peanut butter, jam, cheese, ham, regular butter and coffee on the table. " You guys drink coffee right? "
Both Rhett and Link nodded and Broody sat down at the table.
" So, who are you guys? I've heard about Rhett and Link before, but they're criminals. You're not them are you? " Broody asked as soon as he sat down.
Rhett looked at Link.
" No, of course not. " Link said, sounding very convincing.
Broody smiled.
" Well, even if you would be I wouldn't be worried. I've heard they're not evil, just really skilled thiefs. Plus, if you were them, you probably wouldn't stay, and you would have stolen something already. "
Rhett looked at Link, Rhett didn't like lying like this, even if Broody still was a complete stranger to them.
" Link, I think we should tell him. He's probably harmless. " Rhett whispered.
" Or at least he appears to be, when we know more maybe we can tell. But who knows, he can be an undercover cop for all I know. " Link whispered back.
" So, what's bring you two here? Roadtrip, job? " Broody asked, his voice was pretty basely and happy.
" Roadtrip. " Link smiled, taking a sip from his coffee.
" Where you've been? "
" Vegas. "
" Ooo, I heard the criminal Rhett and Link were there and shot some peeps. " Broody chuckled, you could see his eyes sparkle a little when he talked about "the criminal Rhett and Link".
" I never heard about it, or saw them for that matter. "
Broody leaned back at his chair and took a couple of gulps of coffee.
" Well, as said, they're usually peaceful. I don't know what happened this time. They even made the cover of today's newspaper. Look. "
Broody put the newspaper in front of Rhett and Link. Rhett opened it and started reading, but while reading he always had another thought in his mind. Why did Broody believe their lie? Rhett and Link weren't exactly common names, and combining the two even more rare.
" Let me see.... Gun drama at Club Lion. Broody, what do you work with? " Link asked.
" This gas station, how come? "
" Listen, not to make me seem like a liar, but... we are those Rhett and Link. " Link whispered...
