" Link? I thought you were in prison. " Rhett mumbled.

" Well, I was. I got out early for good behavior. "

" Why were you in there if you don't mind me asking, I remembered that you got arrested at school. "

Link smiled.

" I don't mind at all. It's not that complicated. I was in there for theft, two years for stealing gold jewelry. "

" Jewelry? "

" Yep, I was in a need of quick cash. "

Rhett decided to not ask why he didn't just ask someone for help or got a job, because he saw Links eyes light up when he talked about the crime he committed about a year ago. He'd always thought that Link just stole things and played around to impress people, but now when he was alone with Rhett he still talked about it so enthusiastically.

" I've seen you go to that restaurant for months now. You actually like that job? "

" No, to be honest I hate it. "

Tiredness made Rhett not think about what he said, so to not make anything confusing he decided to just be an open book and answer anything Link asked.

" Then why are you staying there? "

" I can't get another job, and I need money. "

Link nodded and went to pour the tea into the mugs. He handed one to Rhett and took out a little bit of milk from the fridge.

" Want some? " He asked.

" Sure. " Rhett mumbled and handed Link his mug.

" So, you've ever thought about getting a roommate or something? "

" Nope, people don't like me. " Rhett sighed.

" Really, you seem so sociable. " Link sarcastically chuckled.

Rhett chuckled back and took a sip from his teacup.

" Where do you live by the way? "

" Downtown, West 24th avenue. " Rhett answered.

" Gish, those blocks. You like living there? "

" No, I basically live in one room and when I don't work that's where I spend all my time. And everything's noisy and smelly outside my window. But I can't afford better. "

Link smiled a little, taking a big gulp from his teacup.

" I've got plenty of space, and don't worry about rent or something. "

Rhett thought about for a while. This was the first time in ages that someone had actually talked to him in a nice way. His parents had stopped calling him since he left collage and he didn't really have friends.

" Let me think about it. " Rhett smiled and took another sip of tea.

Link smiled and looked out the window.

" The weather isn't getting any better, and I'm not letting you go back out in that wet hoodie. You'll catch a cold. How about you stay the night and see how you like it? "

Rhett smiled. There was something about Link that caught his eye, like a friend. Maybe this was the beginning of Rhett's first real friendship since kindergarten.

" Sure, I'm off work tomorrow anyway. "

Link smiled and finished his tea.

" All I've got for you  is my sofa bed. "

" That's okay, it's probably better than what I sleep on at home. "

Rhett followed Link into the living room where Link quickly unfolded the sofa bed and got out some sheets and a pillow.

" Make yourself at home. See you in the morning. " Link smiled and left the room.

" Night. " Rhett mumbled. Just seeing the bed fold out in front of him made him sleepy. He took of his wet hoodie, socks and belt. He stayed in his t-shirt and jeans, which by the way was way too big since he was so skinny. He snuggled down underneath the covers and fell asleep less than a minute later.
