The Lights (A Rocky Lynch Story)

Chapter 3

Rocky's POV

We parked in the parking lot of the hospital. Riker, Ross, and I got out of the car and rushed into the hospital. I went up to the counter, "We are here to see Rayne Love." I said to the nurse.

"She's having a blood transfusion right now. How are you related to her?"

Blood transfusion? There was a deep cut on the base of her neck and on her forehead but other than that I hadn't seen any other deep wounds.

"We're her friends." Riker said.

"What about her parents?" the nurse said.

"At work, she fell riding a bike. We were with her and we weren't sure how bad it was so we called 911 just in case." Ross said. Wow, that kid can really lie.

"Good thing you did, she hit the back of her head pretty hard. She has a mild concussion. A sprained ankle, and multiple cuts and bruises. We are planning on keeping her over night. Are any adults coming?"

How did she hit the back of her head?

"I am." Riker said. He was 20. The nurse just nodded.

"When can we see her?" I asked.

"She'll be out of surgery soon, but she'll need rest. So I'm not sure. I'll have to ask the doctor, for now you three can wait In the waiting room."

I sat down and after a few minuets mom, dad, Rydel, and Ryland came in.

"How is she?" Rydel asked sitting down by me.

"Don't know, she's in a blood transfusion." I said. Rydel hugged me, "She'll be okay. She's tough, Ratliff is coming too he's bringing Kelly. They should be here in about 20 minuets." I nodded. Rydel went to talk with Riker and Ross while the doctor came out and talked to mom. I watched her, holding my breathe. Mom then motioned for us to follow her. I got up and as we made are way though the hallways Ratliff and Kelly caught up with us.

"What happened?" Ratliff asked.

"I'll let you know when I know." I said. We stopped outside a room, "This is her room, but you can't stay long she needs rest."

We all went in, the room was a bigger one so we all fit. I sat in the chair by her bed and took her hand. It was cold. Her forehead had a bandage on it along with her neck and the back of her head. Rayne's other cuts were just washed up and her bruises were more visible.

"Rocky," someone said my name, I looked up at my dad," What happened?"

I looked over at Riker who stood by the door, he shut it. "I'm not sure, Rayne just showed up at the house like this."

"Rocky and I think it has something to do with her parents. Only she hasn't told him anything." Riker says looking at Rayne.

"That makes sense, every time her mom came over she was jumpy and nervous." Ryland said. He sat on her other side holding her hand. Everybody new he had a crush on her but it's like a child crush since she was two years older than him.

"I'll talk to her mom tomorrow. Right now we should let her rest." everybody started to leave the room, I stood up looking back at Rayne one more time before I left.

"Rocky." my brother called my name.

"Yeah Ross."

"You should tell her."

"Tell who what?" I asked confused.

"You should tell Rayne you like her."

"But-" I started but Ross cut me off, "Don't denie it. We all know it's true." he said. With that he walk up and started to talk to Ryland. First Riker now Ross, who's next? We got back in our cars and went home.

As soon as we got home I went up to my room. I didn't want to be bothered anymore, I sat on my bed just staring into space. "Hey, mom just got back from Rayne's house. Her mom's gone and her dad's no where to be seen." Riker said.

"They probably left after they did what they did to her." I said.

"We don't know that. But when she gets out of the hospital she's going to be staying with us and mom says you and Ross go back to school Monday."

"When is Rayne getting out of the hospital?"

"Tomorrow I think. They're keeping her over night for observation."

"Okay. So her parents just left."

"Yeah, apparently." Riker says.

Ross comes running into our room, and nearly trips on my clothes pile.

"Wow, slow down." Riker says.

"Were going to have a band practice. Ryland says were playing at dance in two weeks." Ross says.

"What dance?" I asked.

"Charity event. The cities hosting it. Everybody's invited we were asked to play too." he replies.

"That's awesome." Riker says.

"Yeah, Rocky can finally ask Rayne out." Ross teases.

I threw my pillow at him, he ducks it and it lands in the hallway.

"Yeah, we all know. It's not a secret anymore, just admit it." Riker says.

"Fine, fine I like her," I stood up walking to the door saying. "There are you happy now?" I made my way down the steps I heard Riker and Ross upstairs but I ignored them.That was the first time I admitted it, that I liked her. I keep thinking about this making my way to the basement when I heard the doorbell ring.

I opened the door and saw a boy around my age standing there," Who are you?" I asked.

"Is Rayne here?" the boy asked ignoring my question.

"Who are you?" I asked again.

"I'm Sam Nelson. Rayne's boyfriend." with those words, my heart shattered.
