Our second album Niggaz4Life was released a week ago and its the number one hip hop album right now. We knew that it would be a success. Our fans never let us down. They have been supporting us since N.W.A. and the Posse and I dont know where N.W.A. or Ruthless Records would be without them. This proves that we can still be successful with or without Cube. To celebrate the success of our new album and to show how much we appreciate our fans, we're hosting an album release party here in L.A free of charge at the Vault Night Club & Lounge.
All of our fans, friends, and family came to the party and had the time of their lives. I felt like it was the least we can do because they've been down with us from the beginning and they're showing us that they aint going nowhere. Dre hosted the party.
"I just want to say thank you for your love and support," he said on the mic. "Your dedication means the world to us and we dont know where we would be without you guys supporting us. Our album Niggaz4Life is out, make sure you go get it if you haven't. And I want to give a special thanks to my man E. Without him, none of us would be here right now celebrating this album. He used his hard earned money and invested in Ruthless Records and created Niggaz With Attitudes. So thank you Eric."
"Thank you Eazy!" everyone yelled as Dre walked off stage.
I took over the mic and said "I can't take all the credit Dre. You deserve some of it too. You convinced me back in 86 to get into this music shit. I didn't want to do it at first but I'm glad I did. It changed my life. And to all my fans, stay true to the game. To everybody that aint down with the N.W.A. movement, I say fuck em."
Two hours later, everyone was out on the floor dancing, drinking and just having a good ass time. It feels good to get out and have fun with your friends and family. Working 24/7 causes nothing but stress and depression. The DJ was playing our Niggaz4Life album and I can tell that everyone's favorite song is Alwayz Into Somethin. Ren wrote that and Dre produced it. Gotta give credit when its due.
I overheard one of the bouncers saying that Aaliyah would be here any minute. She's a big fan of N.W.A. She's a beautiful girl. I met her last year in 1990 but like I said, she's a fan but she really aint checking for me like that. It's a brand new year and I'm still trying to get her to talk to me.
Someone from the crowd yelled "oh my God! That's Aaliyah!" Everyone screamed and ran up to her. This party is for N.W.A. but Aaliyah is taking all of the shine. It's cool though. Because she's so down to earth and humble, she didn't care that there were so many loud screaming fans running up to her asking for pictures and autographs. Her bodyguards told everybody to back up and give her some space.
It took her literally almost 4 hours to sign autographs and take pictures with everyone. The time is now 11:36pm and half of the crowd is gone. She sat down at a table with her close friends and had a drink. This is kind of confusing. She's a big fan of N.W.A. but since she's been here, she hasn't spoken to me or even asked for an autograph. She bipassed Ren, Dre, and Yella too. I didn't want to walk over there and interrupt her conversation with her friends but I do want to get to know her a little more. I asked the bouncer to walk over there and tell her that I want to talk to her.
"Hey Miss Haughton. Sorry to bother you but my man Eazy-E wants to speak with you. You know Eazy-E right?" he asked.
She said "oh, I met him once before last year. I have no interest in talking to him right now. I already know who he is."
"Oh okay. Well just say hi. You dont have to have a full conversation with him. He really wants to talk to you."
One of her friends said "girl just speak to the man. If you dont, I will. Shit he's fine ass hell."
She laughed. "Ok bring him over here."
Her friends walked away for a minute to give us some privacy.
"So what's up?" I asked as I sat down at the table with her.
"So that's how you greet me? Okay."
"Okay. Well how you doing?"
"I'm fine. Nice to meet you again," she said as she shook my hand.
"Nice to meet you too. I've been trying to sit down and talk to you for the longest but just aint had the chance to. Thanks for coming to my party. You like the album?" I asked.
"You're welcome and yes I love it. I have all your albums. I'm a big fan."
"Well damn I sure can't tell cuz all night you just been ignoring a nigga. Thought you were going to ask for a picture or something."
"I'm just not the groupie type. You should know that by now."
"What's your favorite song and album?" I asked.
"My favorite song is Straight Outta Compton and my favorite album is Eazy Duz It. Good job," she said.
"Well you know I didn't write it. At the time I didn't want to be a rapper but they kind of made me so I never wrote my own lyrics. So how's you and your music?"
"Well right now I'm working on my first single. I do have plans for an album but not anytime soon. I know a little something about the music business though so I can basically manage myself."
Her friend walked over and said "sorry to interrupt but LiLi it's time to go. You said you wanted to leave before 12:00, well its almost 11:50 now."
"Oh yeah that's right. Let's beat this LA traffic." She got up and grabbed her purse. "It was nice meeting you again Eric."
"You wanna hang out sometime?" I asked.
"Mmm I'm sorry Eric. You are a nice guy and a great rapper but I dont need all that right now."
