It was 470 B.C, the kingdom of Menidia. Xerxes the great ruled over the beautiful and unbeatable Empire of Menidia. Surrounded with seas and oceans the mighty Menidian Empire stood with all its glory, with an unstoppable army, creating nightmares to each and every other kings of the world.
The Royal Princes of the mighty Menidian Empire, Cyrus and Darius, powerful warriors and successful young chief commanders of their regiments.
The elder Royal prince Cyrus was in charge of expanding the Empire towards the east. And the Younger Royal prince Darius was in charge of the expansion of territory towards north.
Royal Prince Cyrus, a young, strong, handsome, intelligent warrior, an obedient son to his father, the most loved prince of the empire and a loving brother of Darius.
The constant victories of Cyrus in invading the neighboring countries made the king happy and satisfied regarding the future and pride of his Empire.
The friends of Cyrus were Artunis, Cassander, Smerdis and Arses. They were his regiment commanders.
These friends belong to the clan of Royal army commanders. Among them Artunis and Arses were cousins.
Cyrus was friendlier to Artunis than the other friends. Since Ochus, the father of Artunis was a faithful chief commander of Xerxes army who lost his life while saving Xerxes in a murder attack by some traitors. Except Cyrus and Artunis all the others were married.
Artunis was the Right hand of Cyrus in the battle field. It was Artunis who usually safeguards Cyrus during critical situations in the Battlefield.
The unity among the friends was a main reason for their continuous victories in their invasions. Before invading a territory Cyrus and his friends used to make plans with tricks and techniques.
After each and every invasion the empire praises the achievements and valor of Cyrus.
Cyrus was well versed in war tact's, arts and horse riding. Other than his friends his personal companion in the battle field and also in his life was a bay colored horse named Arsama.
It was the horse which was born and brought up in the royal Palace. As it was a furious and arrogant horse, the cavalry man found it difficult to train it for a battle field.
One fine day Cyrus saved Arsama from a cavalry man, who made it to bleed by hitting with a spear. Cyrus took good care of it and finally they became thick friends. Arsama disobeys everyone except Cyrus. It used to get angry and hit everyone who tries to touch it, even the friends of Cyrus. But it was a faithful caretaker of Cyrus in the battle field. Arsama could sense its instructions even from the leg movement of Cyrus. It safeguards as well as helps its master to smash the enemies. It gets pride to carry its victorious master on the cheer filled palace streets of Menidia after each and every successful invasion.
During the Invasion of a territory named Archosia, Artunis got hurt badly in the battlefield, as he got in to the trap made for Cyrus. Cyrus and the other friends managed to save his life and brought him back to the camp. Cyrus called for the best physicians of Menidia to treat Artunis and they rushed to the camp.
The physicians found Artunis in a critical stage and they suggested that he should be transferred immediately to Persepolis (the capital of Menidia) for further treatment but they also said that he could not hold until they reach the capital.
Cyrus and his friends thought for an alternate solution. Arses suggested Cyrus to send Artunis to Pairidaeza, a village which was in a one day travel from their camp where Artunis's family lives as the village was gifted by Xerxes to Artunis's father Ochus.
Cyrus accepted the suggestion and sent Artunis and the physicians with a troop of 100 soldiers to Pairidaeza.
Artunis reached his family palace in the village of Pairidaeza and he began to recover.
Artunis left the Pairidaeza palace at his 5 years, since it was a rule of their clan that every male child should leave his parents to become a warrior and to serve the king. At Persepolis he has been living in his own palace and he was back in the Pairidaeza palace after a long time.
When Artunis recovered he sent back the troops and the physicians to help Cyrus at the battle field.
After some days of the Battle, the army of Cyrus advanced and finally they won the battle and captured Archosia.
Cyrus with his friends and army returned to Persepolis with victory. They entered the city with the cheer welcoming of the people and the king appreciated them in front of the people. They also had a feast with the king.
In the very night Cyrus started to Pairidaeza to visit Artunis, he was accompanied with two soldiers.
After two days he reached the village at dawn. The fresh cool breeze and the quiet nature of that village welcomed him.
Cyrus entered the gates of Artunis's palace. He was surprised to see the palace without any guards. The palace looked so quiet which seemed that there was nobody living in it. The fragrance and the beauty of the flowers in the garden which was embracing the palace made him to realize that the place was a heaven.
He got down from Arsama and he locked him near a tree.
Cyrus asked Arsama, "you like this place right?". Arsama nodded, Cyrus smiled, "That's why I'm not sending you to the stable, stay here and be good." Arsama nodded again, Cyrus laughed and caressed its head. The two soldiers, who accompanied him went in search of the horse stable of the palace to leave their horses, with the permission of Cyrus .
Cyrus entered the palace; the fragrance of the burning incense, beautiful paintings on the walls, the fresh flowers in sculptured pots, hanging art worked fabrics made him to forget that It was his very first time to enter a place without anyone to receive him.
He never knew anything about the room in which Artunis was, but he loved to look at the beauty of the palace.
When he advanced inside, he heard a voice of a girl humming some music.
He followed the tone and reached a staircase. He saw a girl who was facing away, with long wavy hair in white knee length attire, standing at the top of the stairs with flowers in her left hand and filling a pot with some flowers with her right hand.
Cyrus wanted to ask her about Artunis, he knew that she could not hear him as she was singing as he started to walk up on the stairs slowly.
He noticed the girl moving to fill the next pot with flowers. But all of a sudden, she lost her balance and fell backwards.
But she landed safely in the arms of Cyrus.
