Chapter 1, Part 1

Elsie's POV

2013

I sat in my room, staring out into the open landscape that surrounded the view from my window. Nothing ever happens out here, unlike back in London. I often wondered what Tilda was doing-what she was like now. I miss Tilda. It's too bad that truck had to hit me. And now I'm here. A vampire. There's never a day I don't think about my last day as a human, or the years I still remember before my 19th birthday. I can admit I was the quiet type during my human days, and I can admit now that I am quieter than ever. I don't find goodness in laughing anymore, or smiling rather big. Not once did I express such emotion just a few weeks ago on my 25th birthday that my adoptive, vampire "parents" threw for me. They understood though, and I was glad. I was fine the first year, but I felt dreadful after a while. My human life constantly haunted and taunted me.

However, I'll always thank Samuel for saving me the day I died. He was the one who smelled my blood and found me as my pulse was failing. He was the only one around when that truck hit me and left me on the ground. I was close to actually dying, so I had no clue on what he did or what was happening to me.

When I woke up his beautiful wife, Emma, greeted me.

Flashback, 2007

My throat was burning and I had the need to drink something, and that something, I just knew and craved for, was blood. That was when I opened my eyes. I expected to be looking up at the sky or next to the red, brick building I last saw before the accident, but instead pretty, blue eyes greeted me.

I sat up. "Hello, dear," the woman smiled. She had caramel hair that ended at her shoulders. It was nicely styled into subtle waves, which suited her oval-shaped face well. She had soft but beautiful features and she was slender.

I snapped myself out from admiring her. "H-hello," I stuttered. My throat felt like hell and I winced. And I heard and saw everything, even to the smallest sounds and fibers.

"You'll get used to that, dear," she chuckled. I gave her a small smile and swung my legs over the bed, making the woman step back and then take a seat in front of me.

"Emma?" A male voice called out.

"Samuel, she's awake," Emma said back as a handsome man entered the room. Samuel had blond hair and had such a fatherly figure look-very mature. I wondered how old Emma and Samuel were.

Samuel took the seat next to Emma and began speaking. "Hi, there. How do you feel?"

"My throat hurts. And I keep hearing things. There's dust everywhere...." I wrinkled my nose and they chuckled. I guess my OCD towards dust hasn't gone anywhere.

"It's perfectly normal..." Samuel gave me a curious look before continuing, "You're very surprising to me,"

I looked back at him, "Why is that?"

"You're so calm; perhaps it's because of your past life," he said and Emma nodded in agreement. I suddenly felt like the result of a science experiment being examined.

"'Past life'?" I repeated.

"Would you mind telling us your name?" Emma spoke up.

"Elsie Hughes. I'm 19," I added. Samuel took hold of my hand, and I instantly felt that fatherly aura again.

"Elsie, Emma and I are vampires. Vampires are real," he paused and waited for some outburst or irrational reaction, but I was stunned at his statement and I was stunned about myself. I was taking this so well.

"I've been around for 250 years, and my wife Emma has been around for 182. I saved you from your terrible accident. A large truck hit you and left you on the road. I smelt blood everywhere and I knew someone was hurt. That's when I saw you. I've taken you back to our home, here in Yorkshire. I've learned to only drink animal blood, and I've also taught Emma my ways," he paused again and looked over at Emma and they smiled at each other. They're so sweet with each other.

"I understand if you're craving human blood, but if you're willing to take in our lifestyle, we'd be more than happy to...train you," Samuel continued. I realized that many new vampires getting told something like this would instantly rebel, but I had no intention of killing humans any time soon.

"Okay," I told him and I looked over at Emma who smiled at me.

"Come, let's get you cleaned up, yes?" Emma directed at me.

"I'll leave you two. If you'd like, Elsie, I could take you hunting? I'm sure that throat doesn't feel very good." He smiled and he left the room.

Emma turned to me. "So, Elsie, tell me about yourself,"

"Oh, there isn't much to say. I guess my life was mundane," I chuckled.

"Any family who's missing you?" She furrowed her eyebrows. Right then I felt her share of that parental aura.

"Erm, no," I looked down, "my parents died when I turned 10. They died in a car accident. If they didn't buy my birthday cake, they would still be here!" I realized I yelled that last part, and I listened as my voice rang around the room, then I heard an odd choking sound. I realized it was me. I couldn't cry?

"Shh, it's alright, Elsie," and Emma hugged me. My body was shaking quite violently and the fact that I wasn't shedding water from my eyes made the moment look even weirder. Emma let go of me and pushed a set of clothes into my arms.

"Get changed, and meet me downstairs, okay?" She told me, and I only nodded. Then she was out of the room in a flash.

A/N: Don't worry, this is just the standard intro. The Wanted lads will come in soon. BTW, another moment where I've updated twice for one story! It feels good. Is this how you guys sometimes feel? No? Okay, then. Till next time. xx
