The journey to the Wind Kingdom began beneath an uneasy sky.

Elarion's sun shone pale and high, its warmth muted, as though the realm itself were holding its breath. A caravan of gryphons waited at the edge of the Fire Kingdom's border—sleek, winged beasts with feathers like burnished steel and eyes full of restless skies.

Sophia adjusted the leather strap across her chest, securing her pack. The wind tugged at her cloak, and behind her, Noah fastened the harness on his gryphon with practiced ease.

"You've flown before?" she asked, eyeing the creature nervously.

He smirked. "First time was without a saddle. It didn't go well."

She gave him a dry look. "Not comforting."

Beside them, Elira approached, a roll of parchment in hand. Her eyes were troubled.

"Take this," she said, passing the scroll to Sophia. "It's the Wind Path—a safe route through the Sky Thorns. Stay on it. And trust no one in the open air, not even the clouds."

Sophia frowned. "What do you mean?"

"There are things in the sky that were never meant to be named."

They launched at dawn.

The gryphons soared through the upper winds, their wings slicing the air with grace and power. Below them, the land shifted—burned cliffs faded into endless green, then to shimmering white peaks. Then, finally, nothing but clouds and silver sky.

Sophia leaned forward in the saddle, the wind in her ears. The gryphon beneath her responded to her every shift in weight, gliding as if reading her thoughts.

Noah flew beside her, his silhouette sharp against the pale backdrop. He pointed to a distant shimmer.

"There," he called. "Skyveil Spire—the southern gate of the Wind Kingdom."

It rose from the clouds like a blade of glass, impossibly tall and impossibly thin, wrapped in mist and faint lightning.

Sophia felt the air grow colder.

And stranger.

They passed over a ruin veiled in swirling mist. Towers, broken and half-sunken in the clouds, jutted like bones. Shapes moved below—too quick, too large.

Noah tensed. "Stay high."

Sophia stared down. The ruins felt familiar, though she knew she'd never seen them before. A pressure settled on her chest.

Then, a whisper—soft and indistinct—echoed in her mind.

Sophia...

She blinked. Looked around.

Nothing.

Noah noticed her expression. "What is it?"

"Nothing," she lied.

But the whisper stayed. Faint. Patient.

He's not what he seems...

By midday, they reached the Skyveil Spire. Wind guards in sleek white armor greeted them, their helms shaped like hawks.

The leader stepped forward, offering a tight smile.

"Lady Lancaster," he said. "Welcome to Aeryndor."

Sophia dismounted, wary. "How do you know me?"

"The skies carry all news," he replied cryptically. "And the Wind Council has awaited your arrival."
