The dawn sky over Elarion blushed a deep violet, streaked with gold and crimson, as Sophia and Noah stood on the cliffs overlooking the ruins of the Sanctuary of Memory. Smoke still drifted from the battlefield below. Ash clung to their clothes and hair like the remnants of a dying storm.

Neither of them had slept.

Sophia's dreams had been filled with whispers—some in Elyra's voice, some not. Warnings, riddles, pieces of memories that didn't feel like hers. The sanctuaries weren't just places of power—they were pieces of a greater puzzle. Each one unlocked a different corner of her bloodline's legacy. A legacy that was beginning to overwhelm her.

"We have to reach the Sanctuary of Echoes next," Noah said, tightening the straps of his cloak. "It's the last one still uncorrupted... if we're lucky."

"'Echoes'?" Sophia repeated. "What does it hold?"

"Answers," he said. "Or more questions."

They rode swift-shadow elk borrowed from the forest riders, gliding across shimmering glades and silver meadows that bent toward their passage. Time felt stretched thin, each hour a thread in a fraying tapestry.

As they traveled, Sophia felt something changing within her.

Each element she had mastered now whispered louder, no longer isolated voices but a chorus. Fire sang to her anger, water to her sorrow, earth to her resolve. Wind urged her forward, light offered hope, and even darkness no longer felt like an enemy—it had become a part of her.

They stopped by a reflective pool near the edge of a ravine, where the water shimmered with silvery mist. Sophia knelt and peered into its depths.

The pool showed her a vision.

A towering obsidian gate, half-buried in sand and snow. Flames behind it. Screaming. Chains of light straining to hold something back—something massive, coiled, and ancient.

Kaelvar.

He was no longer waiting. He was stirring.

Sophia reeled back.

"It's breaking," she whispered. "The seal. The Core won't hold much longer."

Noah crouched beside her, eyes narrowed. "Then we can't waste another step."

Sophia looked at him—really looked. He bore new scars now, some on his skin, many more beneath it. Yet he still stood at her side.

And she... she was not the same girl who once wanted to fall from a cliff.

"I'm not scared," she said quietly.

"I know," he replied. "That's what scares me."

They left the pool behind and descended into the Whispering Valley—toward the Sanctuary of Echoes, where the last fragment of Sophia's legacy waited to be claimed... or destroyed.

The Whispering Valley lived up to its name.

As Sophia and Noah descended into its mist-veiled depths, the wind carried voices—soft murmurs that twisted through the trees like forgotten lullabies. Every step stirred echoes of the past: ghostly footfalls behind them, flickers of light dancing in their periphery, fragments of memory not their own.

Noah dismounted first, leading his elk with steady hands. "We go on foot from here. The Sanctuary of Echoes doesn't allow anything living past a certain point unless it's invited."

"And we're invited?" Sophia asked cautiously.

He hesitated. "We'll find out."

As they ventured deeper, the mist thickened, turning the air cold and damp. White blossoms opened on black vines that curled over every stone and branch. The path beneath their feet was paved with crystal shards that reflected not their own faces—but those of others. Old guardians. Fallen warriors. Strangers.
