The wind shifted as they left the Frostmar Wastes behind.

From the north, where mountains fractured the clouds, a heavy mist poured down like spilled ink. The group traveled in silence, weary from the battle at Virewyn, their spirits dulled by what they had seen—and what they had barely survived.

Sophia rode alongside Noah, Kaelen trailing behind them with Aravae, who had yet to speak since the sealing. Even Lirael seemed subdued, her normal wit sheathed like a blade unused.

The silence broke only when Maeron announced, "We're close."

Sophia turned. "To what?"

He pointed ahead, to a jagged outcropping of stone half-swallowed by fog. "The Oracle's Sanctuary. She'll know what Kaelvar is planning next."

Noah's brow furrowed. "The Oracle isn't known for hospitality. She speaks in riddles—half-truths and futures that change with every breath."

"She also saved Elyra's life once," Lirael added. "And gave her the means to forge the Elemental Pact. If she speaks to Sophia, it could change everything."

Sophia inhaled deeply. She felt the elements in her blood stir uneasily. Fire whispered of danger. Ice warned of deception. Even the wind, usually a friend, seemed unsure.

"I'll speak to her," she said. "But alone."

The sanctuary appeared as if the mountain itself had cracked open to reveal a temple of bone-white stone, etched with runes that shimmered under moonlight. The air was thick, not just with mist—but with something older. Older than kingdoms. Older than names.

Sophia stepped forward, leaving the others behind.

Inside, the silence deepened. No footsteps echoed. No shadows moved. The Oracle's chamber was circular, its walls carved with constellations that shimmered faintly.

And at its center stood a woman cloaked in gray and silver, her eyes hidden beneath a veil. Her voice, when she spoke, came from all directions at once.

"Sophia of Elyra. One of All. Guardian of the Flame and Ice. Seeker of Truth. Child of the Rift."

Sophia's heart pounded. "You know who I am."

"I know who you were. Who you are. And who you may yet become."

Sophia stepped forward. "Then tell me what I need to know. Kaelvar is gaining power. The seal is failing. I need to stop him."

The Oracle tilted her head. "You seek answers. But are you ready for the price?"

"I'll pay it."

"You already have," the Oracle murmured. "You just don't know what you've lost yet."

A strange pressure closed around Sophia's chest. "What do you mean?"

The Oracle raised one hand.

The constellations shifted. Stars realigned. And an image appeared in the air: a vision of a battlefield, broken and burning, with a lone figure standing amid the wreckage—Sophia herself. But around her were bodies. Familiar ones.

Noah. Kaelen. Even Aravae.

All fallen.

"No," Sophia whispered.

"This is one path," said the Oracle. "The one you are currently walking."

Sophia's voice broke. "Is there another?"

"There are always other paths. But each requires a sacrifice. And none guarantee peace."

The vision changed.
