"So apparently Devin is going out of town for a while," I said to my pack as I took my seat at the lunch table.
"What? Where? Why?" Matt demanded immediately.
I raised my eyebrows at him. "He's going away. I don't know where or why. He just said he had 'business to tend to'," I quirked my fingers around the phrase. "In any case, he said it would be a good opportunity for us to come up with a plan to kill him."
"Wait a second," Mirah said, waving her hands at me. "He literally told you he was leaving town for a bit and to come up with a murder plan?"
I nodded. "It's strange and I don't know if I trust it but I don't see why he would bother. It's not like we are going to let our guard down just because he isn't in the immediate vicinity. Besides, it's not like he told me when he's coming back."
"This is so strange," Dakota said softly. "Why bother to tell you?"
"Who knows? But I 'm having a hard time grasping the fact that Caleb and Devin share DNA. they're so different..." I replied, flipping my bottle cap around my fingers.
"So what now? If he really is going away what are we going to do?" Jared asked.
"Find out where and what he's hiding," Matt said before I could open my mouth.
"Essentially yes," I said. The rest of my pack shared the same weird look I did at Matt but he didn't appear to notice.
"We should get Natasha's help too I 'm sure she might have some ideas," he continued.
I nodded. "I already called her and told her about this. She said it was weird for him to be leaving town if he has such an important plan but hes never been quite so aggressive like Caleb was so it's possible hes being honest. She also said she's been trying to contact everyone she knows to see if they've heard anything about Devin or what hes up to. No luck yet but she'll keep trying until something comes up."
Matt nodded, stroking his chin. "Is Wyatt in on the loop?"
Jared choked on his juice and even Dakota looked surprised. I tried to mask my own shock.
"Yes. Wyatt's being updated as well as Natasha has been. We've been scouring the forest for trails and places he may be hiding but so far nothing. We don't think hes in there. Caleb must have wanted to be off the grid, unlike Devin, who seems to enjoy the plushier civilized life. At least if him driving around town with his friends is anything to go by."
"Why'd you find him in the forest that time then?" Matt challenged.
I shrugged. "He probably knew me or Wyatt would end up there eventually to hunt and was waiting to introduce himself. I haven't found his scent there in ages so I doubt he goes often, if ever."
"Humph," Matt scoffed.
"In any case, everyone's in the loop and we ate all trying to find him. Hopefully we can use this time to our advantage, find out where hes staying and who he knows. This way when hes no longer whole we can finally-"
"Lila?"
I jumped in my seat, startled by Ivy appearing next to me. "Ivy! Hey! Whats up?" I hoped she didn't notice how flustered I was, but she almost walked in on me saying "we can finally kill him" which wasn't a phrase she should be hearing.
She didn't meet my eyes. She held the shoulder strap of her bag in her hand, pulling her bag higher on her back. Her other hand drummed impatiently against her thigh. Her face seemed paler than usual and her eyes darted to anywhere but me.
"Nothing. Just wanted to let you know I 'm meeting with a friend after school today," she said, monotone.
"Oh. What friend?" I asked. I prayed it was a school friend.
