Ivy POV
"So Ivy...what happened with you and Matt yesterday?" Lila asked me as we walked to the bus stop Monday morning.
"He got the ridiculous illusion that he had some say in my life and that he could order me about," I said darkly. Since that stupid argument, I've been in a foul mood. Also, a slightly frightened one. That Devin guy still gave me the creeps whenever he crossed my mind.
"I'm sure Matt knows he crossed a line, but he just wants to make sure you're safe," she said, grimacing slightly. "Although, I definitely agree he has absolutely no right to tell you anything, he kind of can't help it. He's a worry wart."
"Well he can go worry about someone else," I grumbled.
"But who was it you met that made him flip?" she asked carefully.
"Dom. I met him when I went grocery shopping that morning. He seems nice enough I guess. But when we went walking he was there again with some other guy, Devin. He was seriously creepy for some reason..." I trailed off, deciding not to explain how I had felt so frightened and rooted to the spot just by his dark eyes. She'd think I was crazy for sure.
"Did they do anything?"
"No. We just talked and they left. It barely lasted five minutes." We stopped on the corner of the street by the stop sign, waiting for the bus to arrive.
She nodded then changed subject to something that was even worse. "Did you hear from the doctor's yet?"
It took all my willpower not to react to her question. "No," I shook my head, keeping my eyes on the sidewalk.
"Well they sure are taking long," she sighed, bouncing on her heels restlessly.
"How's the boyfriend?" I asked instead, diverting the attention to her now.
"He's fine," she replied, but sounded distracted.
"You know, you really should have given Wyatt a chance," I said after a moment. "He really likes you."
"I know." She bit her lip sharply a second later, looking like she wanted to take it back.
"And you never did anything?" I asked her incredulously.
"Well...I never really...thought of him...you know...like that." She fumbled, glancing up at me quickly before she let out a frustrated growl that sounded oddly doglike. "Okay maybe I did like him a little. But I'm with someone else now, so it doesn't matter. I like him more, and I'm fine with being friends with Wyatt."
Normally I'd poke fun at her, and be extremely glad that she did have a thing for Wyatt...but she looked as if she was sorely regretting something, and I suddenly didn't have the heart to bother her.
"Well at least you've got a boyfriend you like. The guy I like tries to order me around," I said, making a face at her.
"He's only done it once," she reminded me. "And you can't blame the guy; he panicked. It's slightly my fault he did."
"Why? What did you do?" I asked sharply.
"It wasn't on purpose!" she said quickly. "Trust me, if I could go back in time and change it all I would. But Matt only flipped the way he did because I gave him a good fright once and he's afraid it'll happen to someone else he cares about. Hence the over reaction when he met Dom and Devin on the street."
"What did you do?" I asked, not caring about the explanation of anything but that.
"I..." she went red in the face, clearly kicking herself for bringing it up. "I got into a spot of trouble with someone I shouldn't have and it came with...consequences. Matt doesn't want that thing to happen to anyone else, and neither do I. So while I disagree with Matt for telling you who you can be with, I agree they may be dangerous."
