Ivy POV
"Matt! What are you doing here?" I exclaimed. I had only said goodbye to Joe a few minutes ago, and I was still a little flustered by the whole thing.
"I..." he looked a little anxious himself. "Well I thought that after last time we spoke, I should apologize."
"Apologize?" I repeated, blinking at him. It took me a long moment to remember what had happened last time I was with him. And even when I remembered I had trouble finding my earlier anger about it all. I was too distracted by Joe.
"Yeah, I didn't really have the right to tell you what to do and who not to hang out with. I just panicked a little." He let out a nervous laugh, rubbing the back of his head.
"Oh. Yeah, Lila mentioned something like that. She said something happened to her and you were afraid it'll happen to someone else?" I scratched my head, bits of this morning's conversation resurfacing.
He nodded, looking grim. "I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Lila went through hell and back and somehow came out fine. She got incredibly lucky." He shook his head and stared at me. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," I said sharply. "Why?"
"Hey, I was just asking," he frowned.
"Sorry, I've just got a lot on my mind." I sighed, rubbing my forehead. "Do you know where Lila is? First she doesn't come home, giving me some bogus excuse about visiting a friend, then she busts into here looking like someone was after her and then she was gone again. I'm kind of getting worried about her, especially after her depression."
"It's nothing about her. Something happened to Wyatt and she was worried about him so she had to rush over," he said quietly, his gaze dipping to the carpet in front of the door.
I folded my arms around myself, shivering. "How is that even possible? Wyatt was here, and I told her he'd talk to her tomorrow before she rushed out again. He was perfectly fine when I saw him."
"You have no idea how quickly bad things can happen to a person...she went after him once you told her he was gone, she knew something was wrong. He never would have left unless it wasn't important." He rubbed his eyes tiredly.
"Is he...is he alright?" I asked after a moment. Besides the brief incident a month ago where he acted like a jerk, he was pretty awesome. Especially lately, and I was kind of concerned at hearing that something had happened.
He didn't answer me for a while, and his face twisted. "I'm not sure, but I think he should be alright now. Lila's pretty good at taking care of him." He seemed a little peeved at that fact, but otherwise he seemed normal.
"She does it often?" I shuddered, hiding behind the door. "Do you want to come in? It's really cold standing in the doorway like this."
He nodded and came inside, hanging up his coat and kicking off his boots while I eagerly closed the door, blocking off the cold wind.
"I think she does. She doesn't talk about it much, but whenever there's trouble you can often find the two of them in the middle of it all. Besides, lately she's been telling us a bit more about what she does and she's mentioned it once or twice."
I led the way to the living room and we both sat down on the couch, a large gap between us.
"Plus, they've been through a lot together. I suppose it might be why she worries about him so much and why they're so close..." he said softly, but it was more to himself than to me.
"Do you think they'd ever date?" I asked suddenly. I really wanted to know what someone else thought; because there was no way I was the only one thinking how well they'd go together.
