Author's Note: A long time coming, but it's finally here! Part 1 of Jared and Roxanne's story because somehow it kept getting longer and longer. I'm not sure when I'll post the next parts, but hopefully it'll be soon! Hope you enjoy xx
Roxanne
That insufferable prick was here. Our first college party and he just had to ruin it.
"Easy," Wyatt said, immediately curbing my instinct to go beat Jared's ass.
"Just because you're dating Miss Furry doesn't mean I have to like or tolerate her or her band of jackals," I replied.
"No, but you will be civil."
I hated when Wyatt got like this. All high and mighty and trying to bend me to his will. I especially hated it because it worked. Since he turned full vamp, his whims were harder to ignore, even the annoying ones like being polite to the wolves.
How could I be polite to the idiot doing a handstand on a keg?
Lila was already coming over with a smile to greet Wyatt like they hadn't seen each other in days, even though I knew for a fact they'd been together this morning, since I'd seen them be gross and all over each other before my first class. They remained nauseating to be around even now, and once Ivy found Matt it would only get worse.
At least Blake had stayed home so I wouldn't have to watch him pine over Mirah. Lea was my only saviour, but she was busy working her internship so I had no one to stand around and bitch with.
A cheer erupted as Jared twisted down from the keg, hands up like he had accomplished something worthy of praise. His shirt remained bunched up weirdly from his upside down endeavor, showing off his taut stomach, and it took everything I had not to walk over there to punch him dead center.
Like the loyal mutt he was, he swayed his way over to follow Lila, the stink of beer clinging to him and his too big smile, pulling shirt down properly with one hand. It set my teeth on edge, like watching him get dressed, or some other weird private habit that didn't require an audience. At least it distracted me enough to spare me the sight of Lila and Wyatt kissing each other in greeting.
I stepped into the crowd and surfed the obnoxious swell of alcohol and sweat soaked college students right into the kitchen before Jared could dare open that stupid mouth of his and speak to me.
If I was going to put up with him, I was going to do it drunk.
"Who let the goddamn dogs out?" I muttered as I dug through the chaotic kitchen of some college classmate I didn't know, that was covered in dirty dishes and empty bottles to find something that didn't resemble a biohazard.
"Figures you're not a dog person. Only sociopaths don't like animals."
Of course he followed me. A predator stalking his prey, he couldn't help himself.
"Only the insane would like you," I countered, giving up before I contracted some sort of disease from this cesspool masquerading as a kitchen.
"At least we agree you're insane," Jared said, smiling cheekily.
He caught my wrist before I could strike that smile off his smug face. Wyatt wasn't here to see me being rude.
"You're too easy, Roxie," he said, swinging my wrist back and forth like a child. "You need to loosen up."
"Do I?" I let him swing my arm until it hit the perfect spot, then dragged him off balance by throwing our arms up and twisting him around.
Instead of whimpering in pain, he was laughing, buckling to his knees to alleviate the pressure. Wyatt had drummed defensive training into us ever since the demon debacle, which was annoying, but useful for moments like this. It had been a quiet few years since high school, so the only time I got to use these skills was when Jared dared to get too close. He was the only one stupid enough to disregard my personal space.
