{Annabelle}

A week had gone by since the fight with my mom. I stayed with Blake that night, and the night after. The night after, I had finally decided to check my phone, only to find about a zillion missed calls, voicemails, and texts from my mom saying the same thing: She was sorry, and wanted me to come home.

Needless to say, I went home. I wasn't about to ditch my home and family for a silly fight. However, I made it crystal clear to my mom that Blake was my absolute best friend, and I was going to be seeing him a lot, so she'd better get used to him being around.

She put up a little bit of a fight, but I think she saw that I wasn't going to budge and finally just decided not to say anything. Blake decided it was best to give my mom some space to get used to the idea of him (bless his heart) and he stayed away from my house for a few days. I missed him terribly, because it had now been five days since I'd seen him.

I wanted to kiss him again, hold him again, have him tell me that he loved me again. Without him around, I couldn't really be sure that I hadn't just dreamt all of that night.

The good news was... school was tomorrow! I'd never been so excited for school in my life! Really, the only reason I wanted to go was – obviously – that I would see Blake again, and the other reason was to see Gabby. I hadn't seen her in a long time, and once Blake wasn't constantly around me, I began to think of other things, like how I hadn't hung out with Gabby in forever. I'd kind of just pushed her to the side while all my time was occupied with Blake, and for that I felt a little guilty.

It was the Sunday night before school started, and I took a shower and towel-dried my hair so it would be manageable to straighten in the morning. I danced to Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People on my stereo while getting dressed in my pajamas, setting my alarm for six a.m. before crawling into bed.

"Annabelle, I'm making toast, do you want some?" I heard my mom ask me from the kitchen. I was in my bathroom, straightening my hair and doing my makeup for the day.

"Yes please!" I yelled in reply. My stomach growled in agreement, and I hurried out into the kitchen to get breakfast before my poor tummy ate itself.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I pulled it out to check the text.

I'll pick u up at 7

xoxo Blake

I almost voiced the 'Awwwwwwee' that was going on in my head out loud, but I decided against it. It would probably be best to let my mom think Gabby was picking me up, as per usual.

Speaking of which... I sent Gabby a quick text asking her if her mom was planning on picking me up.

I was going to ask you if you needed a ride, she said.

No thanks, my mom is going to take me today, I sneakily lied. No reason for her to think I was ditching her for Blake, even though I kind of was.

Okay sounds good.

As soon as I popped my last bite of toast into my mouth, the buzzer for the intercom to my apartment dinged. I quickly hopped out of my seat and to the door to press the speaker button.

"Hello?"

"Miss Gerald, your ride for school is here," the man from behind the desk down at the lobby told me. His name was Peter, and he'd worked in this apartment building for longer than I'd been living here.
