Jake healed within a week, well it was more like days, I had left him at home whist me and Harry made our way to Seattle to go and collect Rach everyone thought that we were going seeing Bella so they were in for a surprise when I turned up with Rachel. I arrived at the airport at the perfect time, there was a parking spot right near the exit, Harry had just woken up and was playing with his Paul wolf, he wouldn't go anywhere without it. Rachel's flight had already landed so it was a case of waiting for her to come through the door. We were only waiting for around 5 minutes when she appeared through the double doors, she hadn't changed a bit, she was still as stunning as ever, "Swap with me, you take the case and then I can finally hold my beautiful nephew" Rach said eager to hold Harry, I was glad she took him off me because he's getting heavy, he eats almost as much as the pack and that's saying something. "I can't believe how much he looks like Jake, what did he actually get from you" she said cooing over Harry who was loving the attention he was getting, "hopefully his brains" I laughed making her laugh too as we both knew Jake wasn't exactly the smartest cookie.
The ride back to La Push was filled with all the gossip she had from being at college, Billy had told her about the wolves so I was able to tell her everything that was going on back here, including the battle and the bit about Bella being engaged to a vampire she wasn't exactly accepting of that but it's Bella's life she can choose who she wants she is the one who is going to be living with the consequences, but her and Edward really did suit.
It wasn't long before we were pulling up in front of the little red house she grew up in, we left her luggage in the car before walking to the front door, I had hold of Harry and was going in first. The door to the Black's house was always open when someone was in so I knocked walking straight in "Billy? Jake?" I shouted "in here" I heard Jake shout back to me heading in I saw neither of them turned their head from the screen they had their eyes glued on, Chief Swan was also here, "Afternoon Chief Swan" I spoke, "Hey Mia, I've told you call me Charlie you've known me long enough" he replied still not moving his eyes from the screen. I pointed to the screen to tell Rach to go stand in front of it seeing as they weren't going to take their eyes off it, as soon as Billy saw her he started crying so Rach went and gave him a hug "you're back I thought you were only coming back in a few weeks darling, it's such a lovely surprise" he spoke to the daughter he hadn't seen for years. "I know, I wanted to surprise you all, Mia knew last week but I wanted it to be a secret. I missed you, dad" Rachel too was now crying, I decided to give them a little privacy and cook them all some food, Billy had got Jake to install a baby swing in the door of the kitchen for when Harry is here so I placed him in there watching him bounce up and door he really was a happy little boy but then again Jake was always like that when he was small.
Opening the fridge door, I decided to make chicken kebabs with roasted vegetables and noodles, so I got to work chopping onions, peppers and tomatoes before chopping the chicken into chunks. I placed the chicken onto the skewers with a piece of veg in-between each piece, before putting the remaining veg in an oven dish with a little oil and a few spices, salt and pepper and placed everything into the oven. That's when I got pulled into a hug, instantly I knew it was Jake, his scent, his warmth "what's with the random hug Jakey" I said looking up at him "a few things, bringing Rach home, giving me Harry, letting me stay the last couple nights and just being my best friend" he replied, I couldn't say anything back, it hurt when he said best friend because that's all I'll ever be to him, "I'm leaving now Jakey, keep Harry for the night and take the food out in about 40 minutes" I said to him "don't leave Mills, stay" he replied "I can't Jakey I'm sorry, I can't explain" with that I kissed my son goodbye and ran out to my car not letting the tears fall until I had got home.
The next morning, I was awoken by the doorbell ringing, getting out of bed throwing my robe and slippers on I walked to the front door grabbing my keys on the way. As I approached the door I could see it was Jake with Harry, opening the door I let them in "morning" Jake greeted me before walking into the front room "want a drink?" I asked "coffee please Mills, what happened to you last night?" he asked following me into the kitchen "it's nothing Jake really" I replied. "come on Mills tell me, I'm your best friend you used to tell me everything" I looked down, I couldn't tell him this because I was in love with him, "I just love someone who I could never have" I replied hopefully not giving too much away "I know how it feels Mills, you just can't give up on them if you love them just like I won't give up on Bells" he replied, he didn't know how much them words hurt me, "it's not enough Jakey, not with this person, it won't ever happen he loves someone else" I said, he didn't say anything after than he just pulled me into his chest holding me tight, I wish I could have this forever but I can't he loves Bella and I'm going to have to learn to live with it.
After Jake finished his coffee he went out on patrol, I did some cleaning and played with Harry there was nothing I had to do today until my phone went off, it was a text from Rachel asking me to come to hers I replied saying I would, I was just going to get me and Harry changed then I would come, since the Black's basically lived around the corner I walked it there with Harry in his stroller, it didn't take me long to arrive. Rachel was sat outside waiting for me, "you'll never guess what!" she almost shouted with excitement, "what?" I said wondering what had got her so excited "Paul imprinted on me, can you believe it hot, muscle man Paul" she exclaimed jumping up and down "aw Rach, I'm so happy for you and Paul, he really will look after you" that's when I started crying, I didn't mean to, I didn't want to ruin this moment but Rach insisted I tell her why I was crying so I told her everything, about what happened with Jake and how I'm now in love with him and I can't do anything about it. She just hugged me "everything will work out Mia, you'll get your happy ever after one day" I just smiled at her, at that point we saw Jake and Paul walking out the trees walking towards us, Rach jumping up and running to Paul, I had to admit they were very cute and were a perfect match for each other she would calm him down, I was jealous of what they had.
Jake went straight inside so I followed with Paul and Rach following me, he looked angry so I went up to Jake wrapping my arms around him "calm down Jakey, just think no boy can ever hurt Rach now, they are both happy" I spoke softly to him, he instantly calmed down hugging me back "I know but we only just got her back" he replied, "I know Jake and she really loves her family she won't ditch you and your dad just to spend time with Paul but you better get used to him being around he will be your brother in law one day but he will really look after her, he helped me a lot with Harry and everything so I know he will love Rach to death" I told him, trying to reassure him that everything would be ok. Harry was getting tired again so I went and placed him in his cot in Jake's room, entering the living room again Rach and Paul had decided to put a film on just as it started pouring down the sky was Black, they were cuddled up together on the love seat. Jake was on the big sofa he patted the seat next to him so I lay my head on his shoulder his arm wrapping around me once he had thrown the blanket over me so I wouldn't get cold, I didn't want to leave this position, I wish I could home to this everyday but he will never be mine, I'll always just be the best friend.
Half way through the movie the sound of the letterbox opening and closing made us all jump, Jake stood up, it was the mail he brought it in sitting down going through it all, and one envelope stood out the most it was addressed to the Blacks in fancy calligraphic writing, Jake opened it instantly he started shaking he ran out the front door I ran after him "JAKE, JACOB!" I screamed at him it was too late he had phased and was running into the forest, I bent down and picked up what he had threw onto the porch of the house;

No wonder he had got so angry, it was the invitation to Bella and Edward's wedding, "Paul, can you phase, Jake ran off he got the invite to Bella and Edwards wedding, I need to know where he's gone" I pleaded with Paul, instantly he got up running to the trees and phasing, I walked back to Rach, both of us crying when Billy got in I had told him what had happened, now all we could do was wait for news. 3 hours after Jake had left, the pack came to the Black's "Jake has left, he said he won't be coming back for a while at least. He needs his space we don't know where he is and he won't tell us" Sam said informing us of the situation, I burst into tears holding Billy's hand "Billy would you mind if I stayed in Jake's room tonight?" I asked Billy he simply just nodded, so I got up and climbed into his bed his scent consuming me as I fell into a slept dreaming of Jake.
