Jack pulled the car into the driveway, at the end of a long line of cars. We park behind my Aunt Bea's car, I think.
I take a deep breath and exhale. I'm trying to keep calm because this is the first time Jack's meeting my family.
He kills the engine and turns to me, "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"As long as you don't cuss too much," I reply.
"Fookin' hell," he remarks in the most Irish voice he can manage, "Ye know who yer talking te?"
This makes me chuckle, "Okay, fine. Just behave, alright?"
He snakes an arm and grins mischievously, "Not a chance," he leans toward my ear to whisper in it, "You make me go crazy."
I blush, involuntarily. He brushes his fingers across my reddened face. I put my hands on my cheeks and whisper, "No, I hate when I blush. It makes me look all flustered."
"So?" Jack asks like he doesn't care.
"So, me looking all flustered makes me look....bad," I admit to him.
His face turns sympathetic. He leans forward and kisses me straight on the lips. His lips pressed against mine helps calm my nerves.
He pulls away, breaking the moment, "Better?"
I nod, exhaling a calming breath.
He grabs my hand and rubs my knuckles with his thumb, "Ready?"
I nod. We both exit the car at the same time. Usually, he gets the door for me, but...eh.
The first sound that reaches my ears is people chatting. I see, not too far off, a row of tables have been set up. They are covered in food, from appetizers like ham sandwiches to salisbury steaks to Mac and cheese to desserts like peach cobbler and apple dumplings and a lot more that I can't even name.
I notice Jack's mouth starting to water. He notices me staring.
"Looks delicious," he simply says.
"Yeah, I know, right?" I smile, gazing at all the glorious food.
"Y/N!" A loud voice calls to me from across the way and I cringe. I know exactly who it is.
"Cousin Becky!" I say in my most polite voice as she comes over and hugs me.
"And who's this catch?" She ruurs at Jack. I immediately assume she wishes she could have someone like him and I immediately feel jealous.
"Uhh...This is Jack, my boyfriend," I say to her. Yep, I was right. As soon as I say the word 'boyfriend' her smile fades.
"Oh," she tries to hide her disappointment, "Well, have fun, you two!"
"Yep, thanks!"
And she saunters off.
"Who was that?" Jack huffs in an annoyed tone.
"That was my crazy cousin, Becky. She's never had a boyfriend for more than two weeks."
"Wow," he raises his eyebrows, "Must be a real heartbreaker, then?"
"Yep," I nod as we move on.
Then the sound of the food bell rings. I change direction, still gripping Jack's hand tightly.
"What's that sound? Where are we going?" He asks as he is dragged toward the tables of food.
"Time to eat!" I exclaim.
- Time Skip brought to you by cherry pie - Mmmm, I'm getting hungry now...
"Uggghhh, Y/N, I'm stuffed," Jack pats his stomach over his lime green shirt, "Ready to go yet?"
