I walked into school, and began the treacherous walk through the cafeteria to the music hall. Just keep walking. Pay no attention to anyone else, I thought to myself. Halfway there I passed a group of boys right in the middle of the walkway. I move to the right to avoid bumping into them. I looked up for a second, meeting a pair of familiar pair of bright, brown eyes
He winked once with his left eye meaning usual place?
I winked back with my left eye once meaning, yes.
He blinked meaning, be there in a minute.
This all took place in a second.
I nodded and looked down, speeding up my walk. I got to the band room, put my backpack in it's usual corner, grabbed the keys and headed back into the hall. I until the last practice room to the right, and set my flute, piccolo, and folder down, and quickly put the keys back on Mr. Wilson's desk.
Scurrying back to the practice room, I almost fell on my face. Who left there drumsticks lying on the middle of the floor?! Probably that delinquent neighbor of mine, Caleb. I entered the room and closed the door, when a pair of arms wrapped around my waist, and a head leaning against the back of mine. I heard the person take a deep breath and sigh slightly.
I turned around and put my arms around Isaac's neck and leaned my head on his chest.
"What was your excuse this time?" I asked after a minute or so, pulling back slightly, and looking up into his mystical eyes.
A deep chuckle escaped his lips. "I told them that I needed to talk to Mr. Winters about the differences between Hinduism and Buddhism. They, of course, tried to convince me that I should stay and that they'd explain it."
I rolled my eyes. "What was your excuse yesterday? All I remember is that it was funny."
He laughed. "After you walked past I took my phone out and acted like I had a text. So I looked down putting a face of pure annoyance only a younger sibling could cause on and said 'I have to go, my brother got lost on his way to the math wing and ended up on the dirty third floor.' Then I ran."
I laughed at his crazy excuse. "You're brilliant, but aren't you afraid that they might eventually get suspicious?"
"Don't worry. Though my friends can be considered smart in class, but they are so thick they wouldn't see a clue if it was below their noses."
By then we were sitting side by side in the corner out of sight of the window so no one could see us.
"What about my friends? They can get extremely suspicious very quickly."
"Well miss lead them and if they eventually find out so be it. It means I can finally walk you to class and showcase you."
"What am I trophy?" I giggled.
"Yeah my trophy that says I won the best girlfriend in the world." He stared deeply into my eyes.
I pushed his face slightly, laughing. "You're such a cheese ball!"
He was laughing too. "Well I'm your cheese ball and hey it's true!"
We were laughing together, when the bell rang. We groaned, but got up.
He kissed my cheek. "See you forth hour." With that he checked the hall through the window to see if any of our friends were there. It must've been clear because he opened the door, winked, and left with a big smile on his face.
* * *"Why don't you come to the band room early anymore?" Whined my friend Micaela.
"Because my dad has to leave the house later therefore I have to leave later, and I've been working with Ms. Denison on my geometry homework," I explained (aka lied).
"Ugh! But I want to hang with my best friend at that time!"
"Sorry, but I refuse to let my GPA drop below a 4.0 because of stupid geometry."
"You're supposed to be smart!" She yelled jokingly.
"Hey I am! It's just that I have an A- leave me alone," I said laughing.
My friend Lisa sat in a chair next to us. "Where's Mr. Wilson? It's fifteen minutes after the bell and he should've been here five minutes ago?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. Has anyone checked the choir room? He's probably flirting with Ms. Reins."
"True," she paused a second. "Isn't she engaged though?"
"Yup! He just won't give up though," I replied smiling.
"You're in a good mood," my friend (aka sister) Ariel said coming up behind me. "Did you finally talk to Isaac?" She asked saying his name in a sing-song voice.
I blushed slightly. "No, we're just discussing how Mr. Wilson stalks Ms. Reins. Excuse me for laughing."
"Your ears are a lovely shade red," Ariel teased, wiggling her eyebrows.
"Shut up!" I exclaimed slapping her arm playfully.
"Her ears are red. Thinking about Isaac, are we now?" My other friend, Katie, said coming from the left and sitting down across from me. Everybody began to laugh.
I sighed in exasperation, putting my elbows on the back of my chair and hiding my face in my arms. "Why won't the world leave me alone?!"
"Come on Kat! it's been three months and you haven't even talked to the guy! Get a move on it before your chance passes!" Micaela exclaimed.
I smirked into my arms. Good, they don't suspect a thing. I wiped the smirked off my face and raised my head. "You see guys I cannot talk to people much less my crush who is the hottest guy in our grade. Besides it took him a day of being here and he's already one of the most popular people here, and me? I'm under the radar."
I began to mess with my necklaces. They're supposed to be a matching set for a couple, one's a lock and the other's a key that unlocks the lock. I wore it to represent the key to my heart and when I found the right person I'd give them the key, saying that they have the key to my heart. I hoped the person would be Isaac, but I wanted to wait for the right time when I was absolutely sure. I had only explained the concept to three people: Ariel, Micaela, and Isaac.
"But you have an advantage. You knew him before anyone else," Lisa said matter-a-factly.
"Yeah so? Two years ago at a two week camp, and then suddenly he moved here at the beginning of this year. He doesn't remember me!" Good, just keep up the crush charade and they'll never find out.
