It was the day of semester finals. I'm going to die, I thought. Today was our even periods so for me that means Advanced Algebra, AP Gov, AP Bio, and British Literature. Three 80 question tests, and a presentation. I couldn't wait (for the day to be over). I had gotten to school early due to somehow catching the bus. My dad needed the truck and my brother swore he was getting a ride from a friend.
I entered the music hall, and went into the band room to find my friends huddled around in their usual circle, with that new girl. Oh goody. You know I was going to make an attempt to hang with my friends this morning, but that thief is here. I shouldn't be so mean, but she did technically kick me out of my seat. Yeah I hadn't used it in awhile, but my friends didn't even make an attempt to get me to stay.
They were all laughing at something she said. I quietly backed out, they wouldn't care. They want a different friend, I'm out. I'm not being over dramatic either. It's happened to me before. I just thought these guys were different. I leaned against a wall for a moment and took a deep breath, and shook my head.
"Hey Kat!" Scott hollered from down the hall. He approached me, "what's up? Aren't they in there?" I nodded my head. "Why aren't you in there?"
"Umm, well they found my replacement," I explained.
"Are you serious?" He asked, giving me a wide eyed look.
"Yeah, this new girl named Anna. They gave her my seat at the lunch table and everything."
"That's so stupid. Come hang with us," he said. I hesitated, it sounded great except Chris. "Don't worry that dingus, Chris, won't be there he's decided that we weren't worth his time since Isaac disappeared.
"Okay, sounds good," I nodded and walked with him to the cafeteria. When we entered the cafeteria I looked over towards where we're heading, and Isaac looked up. When he saw Scott and I he raised his eyebrow at me. He was probably wondering two things; why was I here so early and why was I walking with Scott.
"You're good with Isaac right?" Scott asked being weary of my shyness.
"Yeah, we talk sometimes," I answered breaking eye contact with Isaac.
"Good he's a good guy you know," he said wiggling his eyebrows.
I laughed, "what are you getting at?"
"I'm just saying. Didn't you guys go to the same camp or something a couple years ago?"
"Where'd you hear that from?" I asked, wondering if my "friends" had spread that info around.
"Isaac mentioned it. He said you guys were friends."
"Yeah we were, but you know in two years a lot changes, but we do talk," I said going off of what Isaac apparently said.
"Hey guys," Scott said.
"Hey!" Isaac said. "Hey Kat." That sounds weird now, he hasn't called me by my name in a little while.
"Hey," I replied. This is kind of weird.
"What brings you here Kat?" Jared asked.
"Just wanted to hang out with someone else for change," I lied. Scott gave me a look, but I knew he wouldn't say anything. Jared and Jack nodded their heads, Isaac gave me a look. I gave him look that hopefully said that I'd explain later.
"So guys semester finals. Kill me now," Scott complained, changing the subject.
"Today's my worst day!" Isaac complained.
"Mine too! Math, AP Gov, AP Bio, and Brit. Lit!" I exclaimed.
"Brit. Lit. is an easy class though?" Jack said, more like a question.
"The class itself was easy. The part where I have to act out a skit in front of the whole class by myself is terrifying."
"Oh geez that's brutal," Jack said wincing.
"At least tomorrow's easy. Band, Spanish, Choir, and study hall."
"You lucky duck!" Jared huffed. "My last final is math!"
"Would you rather it be the first final you take?" I questioned raising an eyebrow.
"No, but I don't want to take it last either," he whined.
The bell sounded and everyone began heading to their 2nd period class aka 1st final. A collective groan could be heard alongside the bell.
"Well good luck my friends. Don't die," Isaac said. They all groaned in response and sulked off.
"Ready?" He asked, motioning his hand towards the stairs that led to the math wing.
"Not really, but let's go anyways," I said and began walking with him next to me. We were in the same math class, but we were in different classrooms. They had to have multiple teachers teach more than one type of math/ teach the same class due to the size of our class and lack of teachers.
"It's okay to openly walk with you now right?" He asked, smirking.
"Well i'm not going to say no."
"One step closer," he whispered.
"Yep. Hopefully they'll figure it out before prom," I replied.
"Let's see it's January 9 and prom is April 22. If they don't figure it out by then we're revealing it at the dance. Got it?"
"I'm okay with that," I giggled at his impatience. "Good luck! I'll see you afterwards."
"Good luck, see ya later." With that we went to our prospective classrooms.
