I was working on advanced algebra homework when my phone buzzed. I put down my pencil and looked at it. It was Isaac and he wanted to Skype. I sighed and turned on my laptop and opened Skype. Isaac then proceeded to call and I answered.
"Hey sweetheart whatcha doin'?" He asked smiling.
"Advanced algebra," I said bluntly.
"Oh you aren't gonna save it to work on with Ms. Denison before school and during lunch?" We both started laughing. "I can't believe they still believe that."
"I know right? Ariel during lunch basically said that she had a slight suspicion that I was dating Scott or Jared because 'I talk to them more'." I said putting air quotes around the last part.
"Oh dear gosh!" He looked horrified.
"I know right?"
"Mmhm. So speaking of lunch today- is there anything you wanted to ask me?" He asked batting his eyes.
"Yeah, what's wrong with your eyes? It looks like you're having a seizure," I said giggling.
He sighed in exasperation, "no! The masquerade!"
"I didn't if we were going as a couple or not."
"Of course we are."
"What about our friends?"
"We wear masks and walk in together and stay by each other and away from people the whole time."
"Won't you get bored?"
"I could never get bored with you."
"You're a cheeseball, you that?"
"Yes you tell me this everyday basically. Now come on!"
"Alright alright relax! Isaac will you to the masquerade with me?"
He squealed like white girl when they see a Starbucks, "oh my gosh yes!"
"Are you done yet?" I said trying to keep a straight face.
"Yep!" He said beaming like a little child.
We both began laughing.*One week later*
"Well seeing as though you're not going tonight. I must go home and get ready for the masquerade," Ariel said standing up from the couch.
"Alright have fun. Tell me everything that happens!" I said waving as she walked out.
"Bye!" With that she was out. I waited for her to out of my driveway before I got up to get ready myself.I looked at myself in the mirror. The dress was stunning. It was a sort of faded white to give off an old fashioned feel. It hugged my form from my waist up and spread out with golden ruffles on the skirt part. The sleeves were ruffles that sat on the bend of my shoulders. My mask covered from my eyebrows to even with the bottom of my nose and was a shiny gold with some black. I put on gold eye shadow, and black, winged eyeliner, and curled my hair putting some of it up with a gold and silver jeweled flower clip that was a family heirloom.
I looked at myself. Not bad for once, I thought. I looked at the clock seeing that it was 7:45 and the ball starts at 8. I slid on the faded white flats and descended the staircase. I saw Isaac sitting on the couch talking to my dad.
He wore a simple old time suit, and his mask was black with what looked like golden vines covering it. He had smoothed his hair out from its usual standing up in the front. He looked handsome in a formal way.
Anyone who didn't know otherwise wouldn't be able to recognize us, which was the point. I continued down the stairs and Isaac looked up at me and his jaw dropped. I laughed slightly.
"Close your mouth you'll catch flies," Asher mumbled from his seat on the couch. I rolled my eyes, smiling. He wasn't going, instead he was sitting on the couch playing on his phone. Isaac closed his mouth, and hugged me.
"You look stunning," he whispered in my ear so quietly I could just barely hear it.
"Alright pictures," my dad said.
"Really dad?" I sighed. "You always take pictures before any event I do."
"When you were five you told me to take pictures of all your accomplishments and special events. I'm fulfilling my promise," he said matter-a-factly. Isaac backed away, and my dad gave him a look. "What are you doing? Get in there!"
Isaac turned a slight red and stood beside me with his right arm wrapped around my waist. My dad snapped a picture and told us one more so Isaac stood behind me slightly and put both his hands on my hips.
"There that'll make your grandmother happy. We can show her when we visit them tomorrow," he said looking at the camera.
"Wait we're going to Michigan tomorrow?" I exclaimed excitedly.
"Yup."
"Yay! Okay we should go. Bye." I took Isaac's held out hand and we walked out the door.
"Have fun!" My dad shouted at us as Isaac opened my door for me.We arrived about a half an hour late, so when we walked in people would glance at us. We held hands and walked to the corner. They played typical masquerade music, and everyone was at least wearing a mask with some dress or tux with the occasional old fashioned outfit.
I spotted my friends a little ways from us either standing, or trying to dance. Ariel and Kyle were slow dancing like normal teenagers (and no not grinding, well they were very close to each other).
Isaac bowed slightly and held a hand out. I curtsied and took his hand. He place his left hand on my waist and I put my right arm on his shoulder and we held our other hands together and we danced. Two steps forward one step back while turning.
I looked around and saw people staring. I quickly looked at Isaac's chest.
"Hey look at me," he said sweetly. I looked up into his deep brown eyes and it was like everyone else disappeared. "They don't matter, we matter. Don't focus on them focus on us." He spun me and dipped me and I giggled. "Sound good?" He smirked.
"Sounds great," I said and he straightened us back up and we danced the night away.
