Beep. Beep. Beep.
I open my eyes and immediately shut them when I see the harsh white light.
"Oh sweet Jesus! What is this harsh torture that has been bestowed upon my eyes?"
Am I dead? I mean I didn't think a glass bottle to the shoulder could kill someone.
"Soal? Soal! Are you feeling alright?" I hear Noah's worried voice.
"Hmm. I guess I'm not dead. Oh well." I laugh.
"Well she's being sarcastic so I guess she's fine. You can open your eyes now."
I try again and see that he's turned out the light. He sits down next to me and takes my hand.
"You ready to get out of here?"
"Heck yes. But wait, where am I going to stay? I sure can't go back to Brady. And I have nowhere else to go."
"Wow you’re slow. I thought it would have been obvious by now. You're staying with me."
"I can't protrude on you like that! It's fine. I'll figure something out."
Noah drops his head in his hands.
"You always were so hardheaded. You’re staying with me and that is final. I already arranged for it so it won’t be kidnapping or anything. Get over it, sis."
"Fine. When can I get out of here?"
Noah is just about to answer when he is cut off by a doctor that must have quietly entered sometime during our conversation.
"Well, Miss Summers, you appear to be stable. You can go home as soon as I sign the release form. The police would like to speak to you about your uncle. Any questions?" I shake my head and he walks out of the room.
"Alright. I got your stuff from Brady's place in the car. Anything else you might need?" Noah asks, breaking the silence.
"Uh... did you get my tooth brush? Make up? Shoe box that may or may not have cash in it?" I question as he nods to each item.
"Alright then. I'm good." I smile and he walks out of the room, mumbling something about getting the cops.
A couple minutes later he returns with two officers.
"Hello Miss Summers." Starts one of the officers.
"We're just here to ask you a couple of questions about your uncle to be used in court."
"Well Officer....."
"Feheri"
"Well officer Feheri, what would you like to know?"
"Well, did he abuse you on regular basis?"
"Yes"
"Was he often drunk?"
"Yes"
The questions went on like this for about another five minutes.
"Thank you Miss Summers and Mr. Derhath for your time."
They walk out of the room and a few moments later the doctor Walks back in.
"You’re free to go missy."
"Thank you"
He smiles and exits once again.
"Ready to go?"
"Yeah. Just one question. How are you taking me getting hospitalized so lightly? Not to sound self-centered."
"Well, I've been the hospital more times than anyone ever should be. Not always for someone else. I guess I've learned to cope with it."
He smiles at me.
"How are you taking it so lightly? You haven't asked me a single question of what happened after you blacked out or about how long you've been out."
"Could you do me the favor of answering those questions?"
"After you blacked out I beat Brady to a pulp and then called the cops because you had lost a lot of blood. You were out for about three hours once they stitched you up."
"Speaking of which, is there a reason I don't feel injured?"
"Ah yes. The perks of being a super hero. Ever notice how you always escaped with cuts and bruises from Brady? Well you would've had some broken bones and stuff if it weren't for the healing factor."
"Still on this topic?"
"Yup. You'll see. I'll prove it."
I roll my eyes at him.
''Come on. Let's go."
The ride to Noah's house is 37 minutes. When we finally arrive he hands me the keys and goes to get my bags. When I open the door to the Las Vegas home, I was greeted by a pleasant surprise.
"Hi." One of the four men in the room greets me.
"You must be Soal. Noah's talked so much about you. My name is Elliot. This is......"
"Tate"
"Ash"
"Alex" they all went around stating their names.
"Hey guys." Says Noah coming in through the door, bags in hand.
"I see you've already met Soal. Soal, this is Mirror Image. We're all super heroes."
"Noah. Stop being ridiculous. There is no such thing as super heroes."
"Remember when I said I would prove it to you?"
"Yeah"
"Show her Alex." He nods.
Alex stands up from the stool he was sitting on.
He closes his eyes and mutters some words in a different language. Suddenly, his eyes open revealing pure white orbs. A deep purple haze surrounds a nearby lamp and it floats into the air leaving me flabbergasted at the sight I had just seen.
