Chapter 3 "The door"

  I jumped up, panicked and alarmed from the loud noise. I tried to go back to sleep because all of the other animals always steal the humans attention from me. There really is no point in trying to escape either because I've already tried that before.
It didn't work so well...

             *flashback*
The doors open as a little boy comes in. He's around 6 years old I'm guessing. He's with a little girl who looks about 3 years old. They're with a man and a Woman. They're most likely the children's parents.
The glass cage I'm in has too high of glass walls to climb so I can't get out.
I've already tried that.
I ended up falling a lot.
It kind of hurt a little bit.

The kids come running towards me and I get happy. Maybe he will love me...
I walk up to the glass and sit down. The little boy looks at me and points his finger to me. I smile and look at the little boy with brown hair. I push my paw against the glass, making him giggle.
At the sound of his giggle, I jump up in joy, happy I could make him laugh. His eyes beam as he stares at my cream fur. I brush it against the glass for him to see, earning me another one of his giggles.
I think this is finally it! I like this boy.

He looks over for his mother, calling her name. The women turns, but she sees the chocolate lab puppy in the cage next to me.
She rushes over to him, picking him up and holding him close.

After all, the puppy was playing with his chew toy and fell over. He even let out a yip of joy as he played tug of war by himself!
Why didn't I think of that?

The little boy, who was once interested in me, now turns his attention the the puppy his mother is holding. He jumps up and down as he goes to the puppy.

I let out a kitten type of sigh and lay down in the corner farthest from the glass. I curl up as of to hide in this corner. My favorite spot it seems...

The family then agrees on the puppy. They go off to pay Jim. However, they stay to look at supplies. Jim comes over to feed me, expecting me to do the same as usual, lay in the corner and mope.
But as he bends over the cage I jump on his arm, clawing at it. He pulls his arm away, out of reflex, and I bolt towards the door, my only chance at freedom. The family is about to leave when Jim ruins my escape.
Ugh! I was so close!!!

"Stop! She's gonna get out!" Jim yells to them.

Sadly, The father turns around and crouches, his arms extended, which shocked me. But I'm going to fast to stop so I trip over the puppy's blue leash, tangling the puppy and I, and leading us to fall into a big bird cage. The cage falls over, taking many more down down with it. The birds all squeaking at their tipped cages and the fright they were given. Then, as the last bird cage tips over, which happened to be the biggest of them all, it caused the food shelves to fall over. I crouch down low with my ears down, ashamed of the mess I made. Still tangled in the leash, I back up onto the mans foot.
The animals around us, creating a commotion due to the loud noises.
The man grabs me, untangles me from the puppy's leash, and hands me to Jim. Jim squeezes my sides, causing me to help in pain, a loud meow that sounded like a screech.
The man looks at me with angry eyes as the children hide behind their mother, clutching the young dog they have chosen.
Jim thanks the man, giving him free puppy chow to apologize for my actions. He then puts me in a small carrier while he cleans up the mess I made. The family then leaves, but not before asking if he needed help.

"Liela! See what a mess you've caused!? It's going to take forever to clean this up! You should be ashamed of yourself!" Jim yells at me.

I lower my head and let out a whimper, my tail tucked down to apologize.
His face softens a bit before he turns around and gets back to cleaning up the mess.
*flashback over*

I felt myself slowly go back to sleep. But Just before I close my eyes, I see Jim make his way to a woman and her child.

I awoke again as I heard a voice of a young child, probably a girl, who looked to be about 12. She was jumping up and down and couldn't stay in place.
"Mom, can we get that pretty one over there?" The girl asked her mother.
Her mother was standing beside her. Jim stepped in front of them to assist his customers. But of course he was blocking my view of the girl and I couldn't see where she was pointing.
I've become okay friends with some of the animals near me. Including a newbie, and my neighbor, Victor. He's a Pomeranian. He isn't a puppy, but people usually find them cute. I wanna know who this little girl will take form the store. I know Villy, the parrot across the hall from me, really wants a new home. She deserves it too!
I snap out of my thought when I see Jim move. I pay close attention to their words, but just as Jim fully steps out of the way, I see that the girl was pointing at...me.
