Lisa's POV
It's been exactly 1 month now since I've heard from my dad. The last time I heard from him was just after the news was told to me. He tried to apologize but I never excepted it.
He's been trying to talk to me but I haven't answered his calls. He hardly was there for me so why should I waste my time grieving over him, shed tears over him, or waste my appetite away. I wasn't going to let that happen so I've gotten back to eating and drinking. I don't usually eat breakfast unless it's a good one. Summer's almost over and I haven't even started my summer reading yet. Liela has stuck around and when I let her play in the yard so she could leave 2 weeks ago, she refused to leave me! I was so happy that she wanted to stay with me.
I felt bad to take her away from her family though and ever since that day I've been looking for her family. Let me tell you, they are hidden well.
I'm stricken out of my thoughts when I hear my mom yell. It sounds like she's really angry. That hardly ever happens.
Liela's POV
Uh oh. I'm in BIG trouble now! Yikes!!!
---flash back---
Missy was cooking dinner and I was playing around swatting at a fly. The fly flew over the pot of stew and it landed on the handle. I didn't want that nasty fly to touch Lisa's mouth so I swatted it. It moved away quickly and my claw scratched it's wing sending it flying down. I wasn't looking to where I was going to land and when I turned around... Splash!!! The beef stew went all over the kitchen floor and I was drenched in broth with a piece of beef hanging down my head. I had fallen in the pot, which was now tipped over, when Missy walked in.
---flash back over---
"LIELA, WHAT DID YOU DO!?!?!?!!!!" Missy yelled at me. I cowered back further into the pot hearing her strict tone. I've never heard her yell before. Especially not at me. I hadn't gotten in trouble often here, so I was shocked to hear that loud voice.
"Mom? What's wro---?"Lisa started. She stopped mid-sentence when she saw me in the pot and the stew all over the floor.
I was sooo embarrassed I started to shake and whimper in fear. I had been hit before by a young child who was about 3 yrs old. I get she didn't mean to hurt me but it did hurt. I wa sacred that Missy would hit me too.
"Mom, stop yelling. She didn't mean it. Honest. She was just trying to help and knocked it over. She's shaking right now. You scared her!"Lisa says. This shocks me because she hasn't talked to her mom since that day at dinner about 1 month ago. I stand up from the pot and jump down from the counter. I padded across the floor over to Lisa and hid between her legs. Missy still looked really mad though.
"It. took me... 4hours to make!!!!!" She yelled again causing me to dart away and hide underneath the couch.
2 mins of silence passed by before Missy sighed and spoke again. "Liela, I'm sorry I yelled but you are in trouble right now. I'm still mad but come here please" Missy said in a deathly calm voice. This petrified me. I slowly crawled out from under the couch. Before I poke my tiny head out I see Lisa stomp to her room and slam the door.
"I'll never forgive you, you monster!!!" She screamed from behind her door. I heard the door lock before hearing the bed flop down. I listened carefully at the sound coming from her room and hear her faintly crying. Thank the moon goddess for my cat hearing otherwise I wouldn't have heard her.
I didn't realize my head had popped out from under the couch until I felt a big yet gentle hand grab me by my scruff. It didn't hurt but I wasn't used to it. She was walking to the back door. She opened the sliding door, set me down gently and slammed it shut. Then she closed the curtains. I was so confused.
'Why am I out here?'
'Do they still want me?'
'Am I gonna have to apologize to her and tell her my secret?'
All these thoughts flew through my mind was 'do they still want me?'
What if I really messed up this time and would never find another home? I don't know what to do.
Just then there was an aqua glow around the corner of the house and I followed it.
"Hello Liela. Do you remember me?!" Asked a young grey, fluffy kitten. I shake my head 'no' and her smile turns into a frown.
"It's me, Lilly." She says.
I remember her! Her and I were best friends. She used to be really muddy and never clean. She didn't have a home before and her fur was always knotted. It used to look like her fur was a dark shade of grey and black but now it was groomed and fluffy and grey!
"Lilly!!! I do remember you! I see you've found a home!" I say cheerfully.
She wore a red collar and it had a license on it to, stating that she's had her shots and who to call if she were lost.
She knew the streets like that back of her hand. She's always been my great friend for as long as I can remember. She's grown a lot since the last time I've seen her.
"Yep! I've found my home. They're great to me. They're always so nice to me and love me just like you said a family would once do to me! You were right! Thank you Liela!" She says excitedly.
"Do you wanna hang out tonight?" I ask.
"Sure. I know this great place we can go, too!"she says.
Then we find the loose board in the fence and walked through it. We rounded the fence and went through a hole. It led to the sewers and then we followed a tunnel. We walked for a few more minutes before entering a beautiful room. It had a picnic set up and Lilly grabbed the food and started to set up. I pulled out some drinks I saw in the corner 'milk' they read. I trotted over to them and set them up as well. Then we started our night. The kitten night out.
