Chapter 2
The next morning I was shattered from the previous day of hard work, but excited to spend the day with Ben again. We hadn't been able to talk much after lunch apart from the occasional word on the slope and a quick goodbye at the end.
I entered the kitchen where my parents were already eating breakfast. Sitting down at the breakfast bar next to my parents I said good morning to the both of them.
"What time do you start work this morning?" My mum asked as I poured myself a glass of apple juice. Standing up, I took a bowl from the cupboard and filled it with cereal.
"Nine, same time as yesterday," I said as I grabbed the milk from the fridge and added it to my bowl. After putting the milk back in the fridge, I picked up a spoon before sitting back down at the table.
I arrived at the indoor ski slope just on time and bumped into Ben as I walking in. I couldn't help but smile as my eyes met his gorgeous blue ones.
"Hey there," Ben grinned as he pulled the door open and gestured for me to go in before him. I thanked him as he followed me in.
We chatted easily as we headed towards the staff room, which was empty except from Lexi when we entered.
"Morning," we both chirped at the same time causing Ben and I to smile at each other.
After a quick conversation with Lexi we went into the boot room where we dumped our stuff. "I hope you remembered lunch today," I said as I stuffed my bag into my shelf, smiling to myself. The truth was I had packed two sandwiches just in case because there was no way I was sharing my sandwich two days in a row.
"I can't help that I'm so forgetful," Ben sighed as he slapped his palm to his forehead.
"Lucky I bought two sandwiches today, huh?" I smirked as I turned to face him before we walked out of the boot room to check the chart for our first lessons.
"Don't joke with me?" Ben said clearly unsure as to whether I was serious or not.
"Today's your lucky day," I replied as we both looked at the chart to see who was our first lesson. Ben's face, in the corner of my eye, turned to shock as he looked at me. Suddenly his arms were wrapped around my body as he crushed all the air out of me.
"I actually love you," he practically squealed into my ear as his grip on my tightened and he rested his head on my shoulder. I smiled happily, trying to hide my crimson cheeks as I pretended to continue to look over the board.
"Ok you can let go now," I giggled as I wriggled in his arms. I didn't want him to let go but I was also aware that Lexi was still in the room and the others would be arriving pretty soon.
"Nope, not going to happen," Ben laughed as he picked me up and spun me around. Squealing I begged him to out me down but his grip remained tight on me.
"Ben," I laughed before he finally put me down. Not able to stop laughing I remained close to Ben as his hands rested on my hips. I had completely forgotten about Lexi until she let out a small cough to remind us. Spinning around, I jumped back from Ben, to look at Lexi.
"You guys need to go teach," Lexi said with a smirk as she sent a wink in my direction. I fought of a blush as I rushed to grab a jacket and my hat before following Ben and Lexi to meet our students.
The morning went quickly and lunch arrived before I knew it. Unfortunately, Ben and I weren't on the same lunch break today but I was with Lexi and Bel. Much like Ben they were easy to talk to and welcoming to me.
I felt so stupid for being so scared about starting this job. Everything had been so much easier than I had expected and I had seemed to slot in well with the rest of the instructors. The actual teaching part had been going great too, all the little kids were awesome and ready to learn. It was so much fun.
After lunch Ben and I ended up having a two hour group tubing lesson together. We first explained to the children what to do and how to be safe before we let them start tubing. I was standing on one side while Ben was on the other.
While watching the kids to make sure they were all being safe I felt something cold and wet hit me in the shoulder. Spinning round my eyes met Ben who was smiling cheekily at me. Did he just throw a snow ball at me?
Smirking in response I scooped up a ball of snow in my hand before launching it at him. He easily dodged it but wasn't prepared for the second ball which came not long after. I hit him square in the face.
He wiped the ice off his face to show a shocked expression, but I just laughed at him.
Before long the whole group, even some of the parents, were involved in the snowball fight. We weren't really meant to have snowball fights but at this point I don't think any of us really cared.
It soon turned into boys verses girls but the only boy I was focused on was Ben who I had managed to hit quite a few times. He seemed to be happy hitting anyone though.
By the end of the two hours my hands were frozen and my hair, which wasn't protected by my hat, was dripping wet. My body was shaking with the cold as we directed the kids to put their tubes back.
Ben wrapped his arm around my shoulders as he noticed my shaking body.
"Cold?" He asked as he started rubbing his hand up and down my arms to try and heat me up. All I could do to respond was nod as my teeth chattered from the cold.
"Let's go get you a hot chocolate or something," Ben chuckled as he pulled me into him and back to the staff room. He sat me down at the table before he made us both a hot chocolate and squirted whipped cream on top.
He placed one cup in front of me before taking the seat opposite me and taking a sip from his mug. A smile formed on my lips as the whipped cream formed a moustache across his top lip.
His eyebrows pulled together into a frown as he clearly questioned my smile, which just caused my smile to grow bigger at his adorable confused expression.
"You've got a little cream," I said pointing at my own lip, as I finally put him out of his misery. He blushed red as he used his sleeve to wipe the white foamy substance from his face.
"Wow that must've been attractive," he chuckled before taking another sip. This time he was more careful to wipe his mouth quickly.
I, on the other hand, had yet to take a sip of my steaming drink. Instead I had my hand wrapped around the small cup trying to heat them up.
My shivers soon faded and my teeth stopped chattering and I began to drink the slightly watery hot chocolate. The warm liquid ran soothingly down my throat, heating my body.
"Warmed up?" Ben asked who had already finished his hot chocolate and was now sitting with his feet resting on an empty chair.
"Not really," I said as I took another sip from my rapidly cooling hot chocolate. I snuggled further into my jacket as I wrapped my spare arm tightly around my small frame.
"Guess I'll just have to do something about that," Ben replied smirking. I raised my eyebrow at him, wondering what weird plan he had concocted in that strange mind of his. "Come here," he continued, gesturing with his hand.
I remained seated, gripping tightly to my hot chocolate. I wasn't sure if I should go along with his secret plan. He was probably going to pour hot chocolate on my or something stupid like that.
Ben frowned before he got up from his chair and marched towards me. My eyes widened as he easily picked me off my seat, sat down, and placed me back on his lap. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer to his chest, his hand moving up and down my back in an attempt to heat me up.
"Better?" He asked as he continued to rub my back. I buried my hands in his jacket, as they were suffering the most, probably would have been a good idea to wear some gloves, and nodded my head in response.
A small smile appeared on Ben's face as his hand moved to the back of my hair and he buried my head in the crook of his neck. "Good," he whispered so quietly I wasn't sure if I was meant to hear him or not.
My third and final day of work was starting for the week and I couldn't have been more excited. I was so happy I had gotten the job because it was more than I ever imagined it would be. Not only was I perusing my dream career of a ski instructor but the people I was working with were some of the nicest people ever too. Lexi and I had even arranged to go out at the weekend.
I was running late when I arrived so didn't have a chance to speak to anyone. I gave Lexi a quick hug and shot Ben a smile before I had to be at my first lesson, which couldn't have gone any worse. The kid wouldn't listen to a thing I said and therefore kept falling over. Every time he fell over he would get even more angry and frustrated and just take it out on me.
By the time the hour was up I was exhausted, but thankfully I was on a break. After making myself a cup of hot chocolate I slumped into the sofa and curled up, occasionally taking sips of my warm drink.
The peace and quiet was comforting and I could feel myself drifting into a sleep when the door flew open. My eyes shot open only to be met by a gorgeous blue pair.
"On a break?" He asked to which I nodded in response. Walking over he took the seat next to me and slung his arm casually along the back of the sofa behind me. I shifted slightly in my seat so I was a bit closer to him as his comforting smell enveloped me.
"I just had the worst lesson ever," I complained as I turned to face him, my head resting on the sofa just so the top of my head brushed his arms. Absentmindedly he started playing with the back of my hair.
"I know, I saw. Glad I didn't have that kid," he smirked as he somehow managed to lean closer to me causing my hurt to flutter slightly as his breath tickled my cheek.
"Lucky you," I mumbled sarcastically but he knew I was joking. That's what I loved about Ben, he knew me better than some of the friends I had known since the age of four did. Sometimes it scared me how well he knew me, yet we had only met two short days ago.
"Hey, you know what?" Ben said suddenly a lot more cheerily as he shifted slightly on the sofa so he was now more upright. I mirrored his actions so my eyes were in line with his sea blue ones.
"What?" I asked as my arm moved so it was now laying beside his on the back of the sofa. His fingers still trailed mindlessly along the ends of my chocolate brown locks.
"We should hang out this weekend," he said casually. His face remained neutral as he waited for my reply, but his fingers froze, tangled in my hair.
"Oh we should, should we?" I couldn't help but smirk as I replied to him. My hand moved so it was now resting on top of his arm and I slowly began to trace circles across his forearm, not able to help myself.
"Yep, we will. I'll text you the details. Is Sunday good for you?" I had arranged to meet up with Lexi on the Saturday so Sunday was perfect.
"That sounds perfect," I said with an easy smile. Ben grinned goofily clearly happy with himself.
Our break was soon over and I was back to lessons again. Thankfully they seemed to go much better than the first one.
I was halfway through my last lesson before lunch. I was teaching a little girl named Millie on the baby slope. She was absolutely obsessed with One Direction and was telling me all about then. The stuff she knew about them was seriously creepy, but I just kept smiling along and asking her questions as we continued to ski. The main thing was she was comfortable and relaxed because this would help her skiing improve the most.
We were half way down the slope when a pair of arms wrapped around my waist.
"Missed me?" That voice I loved so much whispered in my ear. Somehow we were still managing to ski with me going backward, Ben behind me and Millie in front going forwards. I was surprised we hadn't crashed yet.
"Nah, Millie's better company than you. Isn't that right Millie?" I turned my head and smirked at Ben as Millie nodded happily, all the while staying in perfect control of her snow plough. She was really doing well, it was only her first lesson and soon we would be moving on to snow plough turns.
"Well you're in luck because my next lesson is cancelled so you have the joy of hanging out with both me and Millie," Ben grinned as we reached the bottom of the slope. "Is that okay with you Millie?" He asked as he bent down to her height so he could look her in the eyes. She nodded happily and Ben pulled her over his should causing her to squeal in delight as he carried her back to the top of the slope. Rolling my eyes, I followed behind as they shouted about how slow I was from the top of the small hill.
