We pull up to her friends house and she gets out. I turn the car off and I come around, I grab her wrist lightly and pull her to me. I smile down at her, her big blue eyes watching me as I close my eyes to kiss her. Our lips press together gently for a few seconds and then I pull away.

"I'll see you tonight. If you decide to go to your house without me, be careful" I warn her and she nods.

"Alright Bren, I'll see you tonight." She hugs me.

"I love you" I sigh, I kiss the top of her head and she pulls away. I peck her lips once more and watch as she runs up to the door. I wait until she's inside and then drive off.

I pull up my phone and call for Dallon. Might as well spark up our old friendship.

"Hey Dal, you wanna hang out?" I ask.

"Oh, seriously? I thought you were with your girlfriend." He asks.

"She's hanging at a friends house for her birthday so now I have nothing to do"

"Are you kidding me?" He laughs. "Your life is so centered around her you can't even think of one thing to do when she isn't around...Brendon you need to get it together, do you ever think maybe you're smothering her?"

"No...and now I'm offended" I joke.

"Think about it...when she said she was going to a friends house, did you try and stop her?"

"Yes but-"

"And did you make sure she was coming back over when she was done?"

"Yeah but-"

"And is she staying with her parents tonight? Brendon face it, you're obsessed"

"No im not. I'm protective. I love her, besides you and my mom who do I have in my life? It's empty, she's finally there to fill the spot for me and if you're going to be judgemental about it maybe we shouldn't hang out" I say with anger in my mouth.

"Brendon, im not trying to be judgemental. Im just trying to set you straight before you push her out the door. Do you remember Sarah?" He asks, my heart sinks to hear her name. It's been 5 years since I've heard that name. She was my college girlfriend up until junior year, she broke up with me. She said I was to "smothering" or whatever. What's smothering about wanting to protect your girlfriend and make sure she's okay.

"What about her?" I choke.

"You smothered her until she ended up leaving, you were heart broken for weeks" he reminds me. My heart sinks lower at the thought of me being layed up in bed not wanting to see anyone. Not even my mother when she came to see me.

"This is different" I tell him and then hang up not wanting to hear it anymore.

I finally finish grading papers for my Government class and stack them together and throw them in my brief case.

After an hour of grocery shopping, a two hour long movie and two hours of grading papers I have nothing to do. I texted Delilah to see if she was done, she said she was just getting to her house. I get nervous, thinking her dad is there. What if her mom isn't there?

Delilahs pov

I walk in to my house, knowing he's here. I saw his car out front. My hands start shaking I saw my mom and dad talking in the living room.

"Delilah...happy birthday!" My mom shouts running over to hug me. I wipe my sweaty hands off on my jeans and hug her tightly. She pulls away and then looks at me.

"Are you ready for your surprise?" She asks. I look from her to my dad, watching I'd with a happy smile and my hand instantly go to the faded bruise of the side of my neck. I nod, biting my lip and then look back my mom.
