NICOLE POV

I couldn’t help but say it. “That, was the most wonderful dance, of my life.” I told him truthfully. He stared at me with those amazing cocoa brown eyes of his, and in that instant, I didn’t care if we had only known each other for a few days. I wanted him to kiss me right there.

“Nicole!” Carter yelled from the side of the amphitheater. Leo slowly righted me, and I was sad to see the moment end. Feeling a little agitated at Carter, I faked a smile, walking over to him.

“Hi, Carter.” He hugged me, and it felt foreign, where it used to feel comforting and familiar. Sadie walked up from behind him, smiling.

“Blue streaks!” I shouted, grateful for the excuse to get away from Carter.

“Yep!” She said, hugging me. “Oh, I have missed seeing you!”

I wanted to cry. I hadn’t seen her in what felt like forever.

“I’ve missed you too! How is everything?” I asked we pulled away from our hug.

“Not much. It’s all the same, but dull without you.”

I giggled. “Have you seen Anubis?”

She fanned her face, and I laughed. “He still cute to you?”

“YES.” She said. “But he is still just as annoying.”

“And Walt?” Sadie opened her mouth to reply, but was interrupted by Percy. He flung his arms around me and Sadie, sticking his head in between the two of us.

“Girls, girls, please. You can talk about your crush on me later. For now we’re all gonna hang out okay?” I laughed, pulling his arm off me.

“Okay, fine.” I exaggerated a sigh. “Wait, did you see Sadie’s blue streaks?”

I asked, gesturing to Sadie. Percy shifted in order to look at her better.

“I did but I hadn’t noticed!” He said marveling over her hair.

“You are now my new favorite person.” Percy joked to Sadie before turning to me.

“How do you think I would look with blue streaks?”

“Absurd.” I answered him, making him pout.

“Well, what do you think, Leo?” I asked as he made his way over to our forming cluster.

“I must agree.” Leo stated, pulling me closer absentmindedly.

I don’t think he was quite aware of what he was doing, but I wasn’t about to protest.

CARTER POV

This wasn’t the reaction I had been expecting from her.

I had thought she would be ecstatic. I didn’t expect her to be gazing into the eyes of the Valdez boy when I arrived. I could tell she wasn’t thrilled to interrupt, but I couldn’t help myself. And then, to make me feel worse, she gives me a bland hello and goes back to him. Leaving me behind. I didn’t want to be left behind.

I had been crushing on her since I met her, and I didn’t even know it. Still, how did I know she would feel the same? Shaking my head, I walked up to their cluster of friends. Now was a time to socialize together, not think about Nicole.

“…can you say that? I would look AMAZING with blue streaks!” Shouted Percy as I walked into the conversation.

“Sorry, Percy, but no you wouldn’t.” I said, sliding between him and Sadie.

He threw his hands up in exasperation as a blond girl walked up behind him.

“I must say he’s right.” She said before kissing his cheek.
