LEO POV

“Nikki! NIKKI!” I shouted clawing at the brick wall. Nico had managed to get us an exit back into the library of the Brooklyn House, but what good was an exit if you left behind the one thing you cared about?

“Nik-” I sobbed. “Nikki!” This was a thousand times worse than losing Festus. It was worse than losing my mom.

I had lost the only girl I had ever known to a place worse than Tartarus.

“Nikki! Don’t you dare leave!” I shouted at the wall. My fingernails had started to bleed from my useless efforts.

“Leo…” Jason started, trying to tug me away from the wall.

I turned on him, ignoring the fact that I had completely burst into flame. “Jason she’s trapped there! We have to get her back! We…we have to!” I turned continuing to pry at the bricks. “There has to be a way to open it back up! We have to open it up again!”

Her terrified face flashed through my mind again. She had been reaching for my hand before the world had shattered around her, and she went falling. Her face, full of terror and worry.

The others didn’t try to stop me again, and after what felt like eternity I fell against the wall sobbing out her name.

“Leo, we’ll find a way to get her back.” Carter said gently in front of me.

I glared up at him. “You! This is your fault! You could have used your magic! YOU COULD HAVE SAVED HER!” Lurching up from the floor I grabbed the collar of his shirt and shook him. “Why didn’t you do anything? Why?” Carter looked startled, and tried to get out of my grasp.

“How could I have know that would happen? We have to keep calm, it’s the only way we’ll get anything done.” Carter said, prying my hands off his collar.

I was shaking uncontrollably, not knowing what to do.

I turned hitting the wall again.

“Ha-tep.” Sadie muttered softly.

Immediately I started to calm down.

“What…what did you say?” I asked her through my drying tears.

“Be at peace. A calming spell. With you acting like that we’ll never be able to save her.”

I took a deep breath, and let it out in shaking stutters.

“What do we need to do?”

“You need to start by saving us all.”

A man appeared in the corner, watching us all. He looked like Einstein, his hair a wild mess. He looked like a collage professor.

“Thoth.” Carter said, stepping toward Einstein.

“Hello Carter. I thought you might appreciate some news that might affect you plans.”

“Oh no…” Sadie mumbled. “What happened?”

“I’d thought you’d like to know that Aphrodite, Hestia, and Hermes have been taken captive by Horus. And in return, Anubis, Bast, Isis, and Shu have all been captured. I still wonder how Shu was able to be captured being made of air…” He trailed off before writing something down on a clipboard that had suddenly appeared.

I saw Piper put a hand over her mouth to keep from screaming out the corner of my eye. “My…my mom?”

“They got my dad?” Luke said, becoming noticeable for the first time in awhile.

Thoth nodded grimly. “I’m afraid so, and if you don’t stop it I’m afraid we’re in quite a bit of trouble.”
