ANNABETH POV

Once we saw who the driver of Carter’s boat was, I could see why he was so concerned about the driver.

“Hello Ms.” The blade greeted me as I climbed on board. There was no mouth, but a humming just came from the smaller part of the blade, resembling a neck.

“Uh, Hello. May I ask your name?”

“That’s Blood Stained Blade. Hey BSB.” Carter told me, climbing on behind the rest of the group.

What a nice name, I thought sarcastically.

Carter talked to the blade while we all looked around the boat.

Little balls of light flew around the air, manning the ship.

I reached to touch one, but it flew out of grasp. I tried again with another one, this time the light touching my fingertips. I was literally touching light, and it felt amazingly nice. I wanted to know how these little things were possible to be moving and have a mind of their own. Formulas and ideas filled my head, interrupted when Luke chuckled behind me.

I turned, seeing him smile.

“What?”

“Nothing. I just…I was thinking about how much you were still the same.”

Jason and Piper wandered away.

I didn’t know what to say.

“I…” I took a deep breath. “I missed you. You were my family and then you left.”

Luke’s smile faded away. He looked different now, but the features were similar enough that if he dyed his hair blond and had a scar he would look exactly the same.

“I know. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, and there’s no way I know of to make that up to you.”

My mind flashed back to when we were little.  Running on the streets, but being happy because I had my family.

“Why did you…why did you go?”

“I don’t know anymore. Now, when I look back on it, I have no idea why I wanted to go. I was happy. I had you and Thalia, and then I had the camp and you. If I could take back what I did, I would. I would take back what I did in a heartbeat if I could.”

I didn’t say anything, making Luke look sad and defeated.

“You still don’t trust me do you?”

“I have trusted you ever since you ended the war.” I said, my eyes starting to tear up. Luke and I hadn’t spoken much, but he was my family, and I still missed him.

“Come here, Annabeth.” Luke said walking towards me as I went to him. He wrapped me in a hug, as I pressed into him. I admit, I used to have a crush on Luke, but I loved Percy now. Still, I was glad Luke was back.

“Do you still have the dagger?” He asked.

“Of course.” I laughed.

“You know, it occurs to me I never thanked you for helping me out as a kid. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Annabeth.”

So, river of the night. We searched for any sign of the gods in the first hour, which was apparently sunset.

At each our, we would search the place as best we could.

The second and third houses were just darkness. It reminded me far too much of tartarus and the A.P., where Nikki and Nico were still trapped.
