NIKKI POV
I laid on my back in the training room at the Brooklyn House. I was much better, but still had some things to work on.
"You did good today, Nicole." Carter complimented me.
"Thanks. I still need work though, don't I?"
"There's always room for improvement." He said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me up off the floor.
"How long was that?" I asked, running my hand through my hair.
Carter checked the stopwatch around his neck.
"Today, against the shabti, you lasted for two hours, thirteen minutes, and seventeen seconds. Longest you ever lasted."
I sighed, smiling as I stared at the ceiling. "So I'm done for today, right?"
Carter didn't get to answer.
"You're done whether my brother says you are or not." Sadie commanded, coming into the room, grabbing my arm, and dragging me out.
"Bye!" I waved to Carter as I stumbled to keep up with Sadie.
Carter smiled, waving right before he went out of my view.
"Sadie, what are we doing?"
It was a Friday, and after a full day of public school, homework, and then more training with Carter, I wanted to relax.
"The school dance is tonight!" Sadie said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
My face paled. "And you're making me go?"
"Of course!"
"Sadie...You know I don't want to go."
She huffed. "Because Leo can't come, and you miss him, and you want to stay loyal to him, by not dancing with a single other soul."
"Well, when you say it that way it sounds ridiculous."
"That's because it is! To dance with someone isn't cheating on your boyfriend."
"Even if I do go, who am I supposed to go with?" I asked as we neared her room.
"One of the other boys at the Brooklyn House?" Sadie suggested.
"They're sweet, but no."
"Then just go with my brother. Zia is away and he's in the same situation as you."
I laughed. "Sadie, please, don't make me go through this."
If I had to go to any dance, it would be limited to Leo and Nico.
"Well, then go alone! You don't have to go with someone!"
I sighed as Sadie opened the door to her bedroom and thrust me inside.
"Oh no. What do you have planned for me now, Sadie?"
"We have to get ready for the dance."
I nearly had a heart attack. "We're doing a makeover aren't we?"
Sadie nodded, trying to decide between two dresses. One was a strapless black, the other a sweet angelic white.
"I wore the black last year, but I love it majorly. It goes so well with my boots."
Her combat boots. Of course.
"However!" She said, tossing the dresses on the bed and turning to me. "We must get you ready first. This is you're first dance, right?"
Sadly, at age fourteen, it was. I nodded slowly.
"Stand up!" My friend demanded. I warily did as she said.
