Today was not one of your best days. There wasn't anything that brought you down; you just were. It didn't seem to matter what you would do to try cheering yourself up. Nothing would work. You figured you were just having an off day, so you decided to marathon TV shows.

That was until Hiro called.

Hiro had been a good friend of yours for awhile now. You didn't know what to think of him at first, but you later bonded with him over the fact that you had both graduated high school at a young age. While you were no robotics major, you had to take a Humanoid Construction class. You felt hopeless until you found out Hiro was in that class and he later offered to tutor you. Although you knew that Hiro wasn't as close with you as he was with his other friends, you considered him a friend and person to come to when you had problems.

Though having off days were things you'd keep unmentioned. You were only in a slump. You'd get over it. It was nothing you had to tell anyone about.

"Hey, I was supposed to help you with your project. What happened?"

You shot a panicked glance at your laptop which had a currently paused Netflix show on the screen. Your project. You had put some effort into it the last few days, but you had forgotten that you were supposed to go over to Hiro's so he could help. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" You yelled into your phone. "I totally forgot!"

On the other end of the line, you heard him chuckle. "It's okay, don't worry about it. Tell ya what. Why don't I just go over there to save you the trouble of bringing everything over."

Again, your heart raced. Your room was an absolute mess and you had yet to get dressed. "Oh um, that's okay. I can meet you over at the cafe in a half hour, really! Just let me get ready."

It took Hiro a second to respond, but he agreed to what you said. And honestly, you had never gotten ready for anything faster in your life. You were pretty sure that you had two different socks on and your hair had seen better days, but at least you had everything you needed for you project in your backpack. The backpack that you ended up having to rush back inside for because you almost forgot it.

The whole trolley ride over to the cafe, you felt this huge weight holding you down. I probably made Hiro mad, you thought. I never forget about his tutoring sessions. The more you thought, the more you were making yourself feel bad. I hate Humanoid Constructions. It's not even necessary for me to take for my major. I don't understand it either so what's the point?

Finally, you made it to Hiro's place where he was already waiting for you in the cafe. "(Y/N), there you are!" he waved from the table. The thoughts in your head that kept bothering you you pushed away.

"Hi, Hiro," you greeted, placing your backpack on the table. "Sorry about forgetting about the project. I got distracted."

You had expected Hiro to be at least a little miffed about it, but instead he was smiling back at you. "It's okay. Can I ask what distracted you though?"

You started to remember your whole day which consisted of nothing, except lounging in your bedroom watching shows and eating junk food. You normally would consider that a decent day if you hadn't done it due to the funky mood you were still in. "Just...a me day," you shrugged.

Your tutor furrowed his brows as he got a closer look at you. He couldn't put a finger on it; whether it be the bags you were carrying under your eyes or the lack of personal hygiene in general, but he could tell something wasn't right with you. "Everything okay?"

You nodded. "Yeah, fine," you answered dishonestly.

"You sure? You look a little...off. No offense."

You allowed yourself to let out a huge sigh. "Yeah, I'm just not myself today. No biggie though."

"No biggie? C'mon, anything that has you feeling off is something you might need to talk about."

Again, you shrugged. "That's the thing, Hiro. I don't know why I feel like this. I just am not having a great day today. Let's just work on this project, okay?"

Hiro shook his head at you. "Not just yet," he told you, getting up from his seat. He went over to the counter talking to his aunt who ran the cafe. A few minutes later, he returned with two steaming cups in his hand. One of which he placed by you. "Here ya go," he said, sitting back down. "I'm not sure if you like tea, but it's supposed to help relieve stress. At the very least, the smell will be soothing."

"Thanks," you replied, taking a sip of the warm drink. "You didn't have to do this."

"Hey, you're my friend. I don't mind helping you out."

You forced a laugh. "Well, I appreciate that, but you can't fix the off days I have. I just have moments where I..." you paused, not sure how to explain this to Hiro. "...I don't know feel dumb or like I can't do anything right."

Hiro's face dropped as you said that. Immediately, he reached out, placing his hand on top of yours. "That's not true, (Y/N)," he started. Something hit you as he said that. It was like you were seeing a whole new side of Hiro; a serious and compassionate side. You always knew he had it in him, but you had never seen it overcome his usual goofy and intelligent personality. "You are brilliant. I've never met someone who can write essays so flawlessly or can put together study methods that others have benefitted from. So what if robotics isn't your strong suit. That's a no biggie right there. You don't need to know everything to be smart. You're smart in your own way like everyone else. And if you're having an off day, just let me know. I'm always here to listen."

You weren't sure how, but Hiro's words got through to you in some way. The weight that you felt was holding you down felt as if it had been lifted. Suddenly, your entire being felt more in control. "You really mean that?" you asked him to which he instantly nodded. "Wow, thanks. I don't know what to say."

"It's fine. I figured it was something you needed to hear. And hey, everyone has their off days. I have them sometimes too. Everyone needs a good pep talk every now and then I guess."

"Yeah...maybe having a friend to talk to is what I needed. Though, the tea is working its magic too."

"Well good. Though next time, you'll be paying for your own tea."

"Fair enough. But only if I can pay for your tea as well," you said with a smirk.

"Deal."

Aw, Hiro can be such a sweet friend. We all need a friend like that (and to also be that friend too) :D
