Please Excuse Any Mistakes

I groggily opened my eyes. I turned my head and saw that Carter was still sleeping.

I rubbed my eyes and sat up. I stretched out my arms and got up, pulling the covers up to the pillow again.

It had been planned a while ago, but today was one of the only days where my family was home at the same time.

I entered the kitchen, where my mom stood in front of the stove, cooking pancakes. I had a feeling my dad and Evan were still asleep, since they weren't hovering around the kitchen for food.

My mom turned her head to my direction when I walked in, "Good morning" she greeted me.

"Hey mom" I said.

Silence passed over us for a few short minutes.

"So... Are you and Carter together yet?" She asked. I knew an evil grin was on her face through every word.

"Mom, Carter and I are best friends. We aren't dating and we never will. I don't even like him" I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

"What ever you say... But, if you guys are just friends, why do you sleep in each others rooms over the night? Usually only couples ask to do that" she said as she took the last few pancakes off of the pan and put them on a plate, grabbing a few and putting them on separate plates.

"I don't know, we've just been doing that for years. It's normal." I defended.

As she nods to my response, someone came down the stairs. I turned and saw Evan. He brushed past us and to the counter, where his medication was put out by our mom.

He picked up the set pills and tossed them down his throat, swallowing them dry.

He looked to me first, "Morning" he said.

"Good morning" I said. Evan went to our mom, giving her a hug before he grabbed one of the plates from her hands.

She rolled her eyes before she gave me a plate, "Butter, syrup and stuff is already on the table. Along with silverware" she said, smiling.

We both thanked her before we sat down at the table. Once we sat down I began conversation, "So, anything new?" I said lamely.

He shakes his head, "Nothing that I know of"

I nod, starting to grow bored of the conversation.

I perked up when a question came to mind, "Any girls chasing after you? Or do you have a girl on your mind already? Oh! Or do you have a girlfriend?" I asked, rapidly shooting out questions.

He shakes his head "I'll answer those just as rapidly as you did," He cleared his throat, "No, maybe, of course not" he said, just a quick as I questioned him.
