Please Excuse Any Mistakes

I bounced from one foot to the other while I held my part of the long sign.

I sighed and looked to my left where Carter was standing. He looked just as impatient as me.
Jerry was standing in front of us, holding a large bouquet of roses and some chocolates.

Now, we're all waiting on Macy. Jerry spent a good amount of his time setting his whole promposal up so Macy better not take too long to get over here.

He ended up going with my idea, putting little notes around the school, leading to the football field, each note saying a destination and a cute, sweet message. I don't know how many he put around but I could tell he was nervous.

Carter and I were both holding one long sign reading, "Prom?" In big letters. The sign might have been simple, but Macy wouldn't care about the sign.

I tapped my foot on the ground. We had been standing out here for about 35 minutes. Luckily, we decided to do this after school or we would have been screwed.

The sun was beating down on us as we all saw the doors that led out to the field open. I quickly stood up straighter and held the sign tighter, excited to see her reaction. I saw Jerry tense in front of me.

A small smile formed on my face as the person stepped out from the doors.

My smile disappeared once I saw it was the janitor, pushing his cleaning cart along. He looked over at us and held his thumb and and smiled, nodding his head.

I raised my hand in a way to say 'hi', "Thanks Mr. J" I called to him.

He nodded in acknowledgment and moved down the hall. I sighed. The door opened again and I looked up. Out stepped Macy, arms full of notes.

She stumbled out the door, vision slightly obscured by the notes. I did not expect that many notes. At. All.

I saw Macy smile as she looked around the notes. She hurried forward to Jerry and was standing in front of him. In one swift motion, she dropped her arms and the notes went falling to the ground. She brushed her hands off together and smiled. She glanced over at the sign and her smile grew. She looked to Jerry and shrugged, "Well, if I have to" she said, jokingly. I saw Jerry's shoulders slump as if he thought she didn't care and she let out a giggle.

"That wasn't even convincing," she paused, "But yes, I'd love to go to prom with you" she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in for a hug. He opened his arms and wrapped them around her, trying his best not to ruin the chocolates and flowers.

My shoulders slumped "Well that was a lame reaction" I said absentmindedly.

"Lacey!" I heard Carter hiss from my left. I looked over to him and he rolled his eyes. I shrugged and looked over to Macy and Jerry. Instead of their once sweet hug, they were kissing. Something I hated seeing them do. Just another reminder of my nonexistent dating life.

I tuned my head away and shut my eyes tightly, "Ya, no. Carter, let's go" I said.

I heard Carter chuckle. I opened my eyes and looked over to him. He was starting to roll up the sign. I let go of my side and saw it flutter to the ground and move left as it was rolled into its burrito home.

Carter put the rolled up sign, or rolled up burrito, under his arm and looked over to me. He scrunched his eyebrows together, "Are you actually imagining the sign as a burrito right now?" He asked accusingly.

I nodded slowly and he sighed, "I guess we should go get food then?" He asked.

I nodded happily and he smiled. He turned and started walking towards the gate that led out into the parking lot. I followed behind happily as my stomach grumbled. My phone buzzed with a notification in my back pocket. I reached behind me and slid it out of my phone. I kept walking as I looked down at my phone.
