Chapter Two
I stared at Louis, trying to contain the laughter that was threatening to slip out of my mouth.
He doesn't seriously expect us to believe him, does he? A wizard? They don't exist! Magic doesn't exist!
Louis' blue, slightly green, eyes scanned the group. I made eye-contact with no-one, but, by using my high senses of noticing, I caught the glances between the guys, as if they were having mental conversations. I noticed Harry's eyes widen; a slight nod from Niall; Liam looking relatively calm. I couldn't contain my confusion.
"What's going on?" I asked, an unstoppable, humourless chuckle escaping me as I spoke. I turned to Louis. "Magic doesn't exist. How can you be a wizard?"
Hurt flashed in Louis' eyes. He quickly exchanged glances with the others before answering me, "Magic does exist. Most people never see it in use; you must be born with the ability to use it. I don't tell people about it for fear of being condemned as a freak."
"So why did you tell us?" I queried.
"As I said, because I want our band to get places, not keep secrets," he repeated, an edge of annoyance in his voice. Again, he eyed the others, as if telling them they should do the same.
I couldn't stop what I said next. "What's going on?" I blurted, eyeing Harry, Niall and Liam.
"W-What do you mean?" Harry stuttered nervously.
"I mean, you guys all seem to be having conversations in your minds - did you already know? Or is it something... else?"
Before they could answer, Louis interjected, "Do you believe me, Zayn?"
"What?" I said, momentarily distracted by the others' off personalities.
"Do you believe me?" he repeated, his eyes searching mine desperately.
What was I supposed to say? He was obviously a nutter - magic doesn't exist! But I couldn't tell him that. Our friendship and, quite possibly, the band could go out the window! So, I decided to play it safe and see if Louis would snap out of it.
"Prove it," I challenged.
Louis seemed taken aback. "Prove it?" He thought for a moment before nodding. "OK, Zayn, how?"
I looked around and saw Liam's empty mug of coffee on the table. The corners of my mouth pricked up into a smile.
I pointed to the mug. "Refill it," I ordered.
Louis rolled his eyes. "Piece of cake," he muttered confidently before pointing his finger at the mug. For a moment, nothing happened, and I hoped Louis would see that, too. But, before I could register what was happening, small, gleaming particles of sparkling dark red - it looked like glitter - danced from the tip of Louis' finger to the mug. They twirled around the porceilin, first cleaning it up to be spotless of everything - including the previously obvious crack on the side - and then filling it with steaming hot coffee, with milk, just as Liam liked it.
The glistening red faded into the air and I stared, open-mouthed, at Louis. I registered his cockiness, but I was distracted by the others' reactions. Which were, to sum up simply, non-existant.
After what seemed like ages, I shook my head rapidly to pull myself together and nodded to Louis. "Sorry for not believing you," I said. "I do now." And then I turned to Niall. "You next."
A/N OK, what do you guys think? Does Louis suit being a powerful wizard? And what do you think Niall is (though I've already made my decision)?
I'll try to post the next chapter some time soon, within a couple of days, at the most. Hope you enjoy the story! Please comment and vote!
