Chapter Eleven
Girl trouble. It's always been there; always been a problem for me. People think I'm so hot so I must get all the girls. Well, both issues have arisen.
The first girl I ever liked was called Francesca. I called her Fran. She was a new student, from Spain. It was like love at first sight. I adored everything about her: her hair, her face, her accent.
But I wasn't the only one who liked her. My best friend, David, also had a crush on her. So we decided that neither of us would ask her out. I almost slipped up on the deal multiple times, but I respected David enough not to.
I lost that respect at the next school disco. David and I went together as mates. I went to the bathroom and, when I came back, he and Fran were on the dance floor, eyes closed, hips swaying, and kissing.
I never talked to David again after that. I made friends with a popular kid, Callum, and, as a consequence, I became a popular kid.
That was when I attracted my next problem. This may sound vain - but the guys always say I'm vain so I'm just agreeing with them here - but when you're funny, popular, smart and good-looking, all the girls are after you. Especially the gorgeous ones.
I had a hoard of girls following me, so when I decided to date one, I chose the quiet, shy girl. Her name was Emily. She was slightly larger than the other girls with long, mousy-brown hair that she often used to hide her face. I didn't just feel pity for Emily. There was another reason.
When we were paired up for a project in one of our art lessons, I was paired with Emily. After she came out of her shell, I found out a lot about her. She was funny, sweet, smart and very talented. She basically did our whole project, since I can't draw to save my life!
After Emily became my girlfriend, we were happy for about a week. It was our first date when everything went wrong.
I took Emily to the cinema to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. We had a good time. We laughed at the funny parts, we joked at the boring parts - I even successfully pulled off the lame yawn-and-put-my-arm-around-her routine. When we left, we went to get a drink and discussed the movie before parting ways.
The next day she broke up with me. I didn't find out why until I was told by Callum that she had been 'attacked' on her way home. Two girls who were particularly obssessed with me followed her home and threw food and drink at her. She had had to walk home covered in Coke and burger. Just before she turned onto her street, the same girls drove past her through a huge puddle and soaked her head to foot. She got the flu a couple days later and she blamed me for it. Emily hated me ever since.
My next girlfriend was more popular than Emily. She was called Shelley and she was conventionally radiant. I thought her beautiful and treated her as well as I could. Turned out, I didn't treat her well enough.
Shelley was incredibly jealous. If I so much as glanced at another girl she flipped out and shouted at me the next time we were in private. And then she would kiss me after. She had weird mood swings.
Eventually, I made the biggest mistake so far. I broke up with Shelley. I did it in the nicest way possible: I got her alone and explained to her that I didn't think it was working out and that I wanted to be 'just friends'. She didn't take this lightly.
The next day, rumors were all over the school of how Shelley caught me making out with her ex-best friend Georgia (they had had an unrelated argument the day before we broke up so she wanted to hurt us both). My popular friends stood by me, but I lost my hoard of girls and my credibility within the school. Shelley and Georgia made up quickly, so nobody spoke badly of her again. I, on the other hand, was not so lucky.
I had had enough of girls. I decided to try something new: I asked out the only gay guy in our year at school. He was called Ron. We went on a couple of dates, kissed once, but soon decided to break up. I'm not gay - sadly; girls are way too hard to figure out!
I didn't get another girlfriend for years. I was happy and single: until I met my friend's friend's sister when we were out clubbing one night. She was called Diana, and she was amazing. That night we were making out and we decided to give us a shot.
We dated for a solid six months! During that time, I was the happiest guy in the world. In fact, I wanted to propose to her. It's a good thing I didn't. She moved to America because her mum was transferred.
I had another two girlfriends. The first cheated on me. The second's father didn't like me so forced us not to see each other anymore. I respected a girl's parents enough to stop myself from going against his orders.
So when I met Lena, I wasn't very confident. But something made me crazy about her. Around her, I lost my nervousness, my worries, everything negative! And she was an amazing girl. Gorgeous, smart, talented - she had the whole package!
Within two weeks, I loved her.
