Chapter Twenty-Seven
Harry's P.O.V.
I wasn't a fan of squids. I have done many things in my life, and many times have I been to aquariums with friends, girlfriends, sometimes even on my own, but every time I stay away from the squids. Far away.
I can't stand their tentacles! They're so weird! Why do they have to be so touchy-feely? You know what I mean? So, at that moment, faced with a giant squid that not many people before me had witnessed, it was safe to say I was freaking out. The temptation to grab the necklace and go home was almost unbearable!
But I was there for a reason. I had to get these rocks, for Zayn, Louis, Liam and Niall's sakes. It was the most important thing.
Whilst buried in my thoughts, I hadn't noticed that my slimy nemesis had noticed me. I was targeted as easy prey while I was distracted, so it launched itself at me at an unbelievable speed. If I wasn't a vampire, it would have hit me with enough force to break a rib!
I recovered quickly, but not quickly enough. Before I realised what was happening, the squid has launched itself at me again and now had its tentacles wriggling around me, trying to hold me still. I struggled and thrashed in its grip, panic rising within me and causing me to swallow huge gulps of seawater. I was quickly choking on water whilst being held in a death grip!
I'll never know what saved me that day. It seemed as if it was all over, but the squid became momentarily distracted. Not for long, but long enough for me to break free. I punched it hard at the top of its bullet shape. This startled it long enough so I could tie its tentacles together and push it away. As it struggled, I hurriedly swam what I thought was downwards. I had edited my plans: get the rocks and go home.
I had been swimming for a couple minutes before I checked for the necklace around my neck. I guess I should have predicted the obvious outcome: it was gone. The squid must have yanked it off. It could be anywhere now, from still in the grip of one of my foe's tentacles to the bottom of a chasm down the ocean. I had no chance of finding it.
Or did I?
I soon reached the bottom of the ocean. I had never been that happy to see the ground! Even though, as a vampire, I didn't need to breathe, I still felt like I was drowning. You can imagine why I wanted to get out of there sooner rather than later.
Hurriedly, I shoved about twenty rocks into the bag and sealed it with the drawstring. I was just about to push off from the ground and try to track down that stupid squid, when something sparkly shone in the corner of my eye.
Curious, I turned and scanned the area where I saw the glitter come from. It was dark, and, after taking a step back, I realised I was squinting into an underwater cave. I didn't know what would be in there, but something told me to follow the shine.
I'm glad I did. Slowly, I floated through the cool water to the cave mouth, towards the sparkling object. I bent down and folded my fingers around it. After bringing it to my face to study, my eyes widened in amazement.
It was the pendant.
With shaking hands, I slipped it over my head quickly so as not to lose it again. And that was when I had to make a choice: go home or explore the cave. I so wanted to go home... but what was the likeliness of finding the pendant outside this cave? It seemed to perfect to be simply coincidental. So, my senses heightened and alert, ready for attack, I skulked inside.
(Quick A/N: usually I would finish the chapter here but, to make up for the last couple of weeks, something highly interesting is about to happen!!)
After sneaking to the back of the dark space, I noticed something small along one of the walls. I moved closer, and saw that somebody had carved something into the rock. I briefly wondered how somebody had been able to do this, but the message displayed by the carvings was too important.
