Chapter Twelve
Harry's P.O.V.
Zayn was happy. That made Niall, Louis and Liam happy. It SHOULD make me happy, right? But it didn't.
I suppose it brought some sort of comfort for the guys. With our supernatural being and that huge revelation that all his friends have powers and two of them are dead for Zayn, they were worried about him. He could have become jealous. He could have become angry. He could have left One Direction and never looked back; maybe even launch a solo career. But he didn't. He held himself together.
And got himself a girlfriend.
I'm happy that Zayn is happy. Well, I'm working on it. There's something that bugs me though...
The night Zayn met Lena was during a concert. He picked her out of the crowd. Out of the thousands of people there, why her? She wasn't the prettiest. She wasn't the best dressed. She didn't have some crazy, out-landish hairstyle that only she could pull off.
She wasn't even cheering! Of all the girls in that audience...
And out of all of us, why Zayn? The only one of us who - no offense to him - can't protect himself properly. Yeh, he likes to act tough, but Zayn could never get out of a mob of fans without a security guard's help. All the rest of us could - though, admittedly, we probably wouldn't, since we'd end up both killing a few of them and letting slip our various secrets.
Perhaps I'm overreacting. I've always been paranoid, and that turned to suspicious of everything when I became a vampire. I remember once I flipped out and almost burnt my house down sometime in the 17th century when I found a wasp's nest in my attic and I thought the tiny creatures were being controlled by a rival vampire to gather information on me.
Nevertheless, my suspicions grew over the time that Zayn spent with Lena. So, after a couple of weeks, I decided to confide in who I believed (no offense to the others) was my best friend: Louis.
We were all having a lazy Saturday - and that includes Lena. Louis had excused himself for some wizard training, so I chose that time to talk to him. I made up some random reason to go back to our penthouse hotel room and found Louis in his bedroom that he shared with Liam.
I stood outside the closed door to his room, now questioning whether this was a good idea. Just before I left, I heard a girl's voice call out from behind the door.
"Come in."
I looked around the living room once more, trying to spot Louis, but failed. Confused, I slowly turned the door knob and made my way into the bedroom.
"Louis?" I asked before scanning the room. I noticed a girl sat on his bed, wearing clothes that looked remarkably similar to Louis'. She looked almost like his twin!
"Uhh, hi," I muttered. "Do you know where Louis is? I need to talk to him."
"What about?" she asked casually.
"Erm, well that's really Louis' business..." I rubbed my neck nervously, unsure about who this girl was and why she was so... strange.
For a moment the girl seemed puzzled by the fact that I wouldn't tell her what I wanted to tell Louis. Then her eyes widened in realisation and she giggled.
"Sorry, I forgot," she chuckled, making her way to the bathroom with a swagger, leaving me completely baffled.
A few moments later, the bathroom door opened. I straightened myself, expecting the unknown girl to appear, but I was wrong. Instead, I smiled with relief at the figure who entered the room.
"Hey, Harry," Louis returned my smile, sitting down on the bed and patting the space next to him. I gratefully took my seat as my smile slipped and my face moulded into one of confusion once more.
"Where did that girl go?" I pondered, glancing at the bathroom door, expecting her to emerge any minute.
At my question, Louis burst out laughing. As he played out his hysterics, I sat still, scrutinising him - and looking completely foolish next to a roaring madman.
Finally, Louis stopped his laughter and answered my question (whilst still chuckling), "She was me! It's part of my wizard training - gender switching. I nailed it!" He punched the air excitedly, causing me to flinch at his enthusiasm. He caught my stern face and stopped immediately, watching me with worry etched in his eyes. "What's wrong, Haz?"
I sighed. "It's probably nothing," I muttered. Louis waited patiently as I thought of the words. I looked into his eyes and said, "I think something's wrong with Lena."
Louis' eyes widened. "What, is she hurt?" He began to stand up to go to the door, but before he was halfway up, I gripped his sleeve and pulled him back down. I saw a flash of anger in his eyes but it soon disappeared.
"I don't trust her," I expanded. Louis rolled his eyes.
"You don't trust anyone," he said matter-of-factly.
OK, that's true. But, if being a vampire has taught me anything, it's that you can't trust anybody... not even your sire.
I shook my head rapidly to get back to the present and argued, "But there's something specific about her. The way Zayn is head-over-heels in love so soon. And why did he pick her out of the crowd? Come on, Louis; don't you feel it?"
"Feel what?"
"An uneasy feeling around her. I don't trust her. She's evil!"
Louis put his hand on my chest in a gesture of calm. "Chill, Harry. Look, have you ever heard of 'love at first sight'? That's what happened to Zayn and Lena. And that uneasy feeling is probably because she's an outsider." I began to retaliate but Louis cut me off. "Harry. There is nothing wrong with Lena. You're just paranoid. Now, go and enjoy the rest of the day so I can continue. Got it?"
I thought about arguing but decided against it. I could never convince Louis of what I thought. So, with a huff, I nodded and replied with resignation, "Got it," before sloping off back downstairs.
A/N Sorry for the long wait, everyone! I had a LOT of writer's block!
