I stirred in bed and turned to look at my clock. 7:15. “Shit. Slept in again…” I reluctantly rolled out of bed and went to my en - suite, had a quick shower and pulled my hair into a messy bun. I took out my favourite jumpsuit seeing as it was meant to be hot today and pulled it on. It had spaghetti straps and was flowery. I pulled on my army boots and grabbed my bag before heading downstairs to eat something.
I pulled up a chair to the benchtop, faced with the cheery face of my mother. She was such a morning person I swear. “Morning lovely. Sleep well?” she poured me a bowl of cornflakes. In between mouthfuls I answered “Morning mum. Yeah I had a great sleep thanks. Mmm this is good… how was … where did you go?”
She opened her mouth to answer when I heard a horn been outside. I shoveled the rest of the cornflakes into my mouth and somehow yelled over my shoulder “Bye mum! Love you! Talk later!”
I made my way down the footpath and into Edwards Range Rover. He smiled and greeted me, “Good morning babe, sleep well?” and kissed me lightly. As he went to slide his tongue into my mouth I pulled away, giggling.
“Calm down, hon. Your not getting much more till you build up the courage to ask me out on a proper date.” I shot him a look as we reversed out of my driveway.
He raised his eyebrows at me a shot me a suggestive look before speaking. “A… proper, date? And what makes you think I would want to go on a date… with you?” he stole a glance at me to see my reaction which, wasn’t very impressed. Luckily, he started laughing and grabbed my hand, entwining our fingers and kissing my hand.
“You know I’m joking beautiful. And another thing, I can take you home this afternoon. Tay is in my Calculus class so I’ll let her know.”
I shot him a grateful look. “Thank you.”
Once we'd parked, he came round to let me out and carried my bag for me, taking my hand in his. I gave him a kiss and smiled. When we reached the courtyard we went our separate ways. I plopped down next to Hayley and greeted her.
“So, guys what are we talking about?” I looked at her and Nate expectantly.
“We’re talking about the jobs we’re gonna get.”
I furrowed my eyebrows slightly before asking “Jobs? What do you mean? What for?”
Nate turned to me and explained “Well, you know the business advisor person for our year? Whats her name…”
“Mrs. Crissi.” Hayley added.
Nate nodded before continuing “Yeah, her. Well she wants to see what jobs everyone in our year has, just so she knows we have experience in the workforce… or something… anyways basically half of our year doesn’t have jobs - including us so… we’re talking about that.”
I nodded, slowly taking this all in. “Great. So where were you guys thinking of applying?”
“Well seeing as I love animals, I am gonna fill in a form at the Vet down the road from my place. You know, the one with the adorable puppies in the window?!” I laughed and nodded. “Sounds perfect for you Hay. What about you Nate?”
“I love swimming and summer is coming up so I’m gonna fill in an application to be a lifeguard at the local pools.”
“Oh my god I love those pools! Looks like we’re gonna be spending a whole lot more time there, huh Hay?” She nodded as we both started to laugh.
After a minute or so of being caught up in our own thoughts, Hayley turned to me expectantly before asking “What about you, Al? Got any ideas where you wanna go?”
