It had been a week since the party, and since I saw Nate sucking face with that slutty girl. This whole week he’s been trying everything to get my attention to talk to me. He was at my locker almost every morning, tried to talk to me during breaks, passed me notes in class and repeatedly called and texted me every day.

I think harassment is the correct term?

Yeah.

I was pondering all this while I stepped off the bus to get to work for the day, trying to psych myself up for the long shift ahead. In Madison’s office, I got briefed as always with the iPad list, as well as her asking how everything has been since I saw her last. I scoffed and told her not to ask… although she looked empathetic for me I knew I couldn’t burden her with my problems, she was my boss after all.

Two and a half hours later and I had finally earned my half hour break. While I was walking towards the break room I was lifted clean off my feet and squeezed by none other than Ryan. Despite my shitty mood, I started to laugh, feeling his chest vibrate as he laughed too. I felt him kiss my cheek and set me down. “Hey Al.” He shot me a half smile as I hugged him tightly and murmured “Hey there you, I feel like its been forever since we’ve hung out during our mutual shift breaks! How’ve you been?” I asked him as we made our way over to the break room to hang out.

“Yeah I’ve been good, busy since the party with school and stuff… what about you?”

“Errm… yeah I’ve been alright, better though. A lot has happened.”

We sat down and he looked across from me, wrinkling his eyebrows slightly with concern. “Whats happened? Do you… wanna talk about it?”

I thought about it and shook my head. I didn’t want to harass him with my problem, I’d explain later. “Nah I’m alright, I’ll tell you eventually.” He looked at me skeptically. “Ry, trust me, I’m fine okay?”

He sighed “Alright, as long as you know that if theres anyone who needs bashing, you can let me know.”

I laughed. “Yeah I know, as always.” He half smiled at me before hesitating for a moment. “Um… so it was good meeting all your friends at Jared’s - well Liam and Hayley I mean, because I remembered Nate…” he chuckled. I knew that tone. The way he asked about her but making it seem like he was asking about them in general. Good effort I give it to him.

“Oh yeah? You like them?” I smiled before continuing “Yeah they said it was great meeting you too, Nate said it was great to see you.” I smiled sadly at the mention of his name.

“Really? Thats cool” He smiled. “I umm… yeah Hayley was pretty cool I reckon…”

“Awwww! Ry!” I looked at him suggestively. He chuckled under his breath before denying straight away. “Umm, nah, I- nah its not like that.” He half smiled and blushed ever so slightly.

I laughed and punched his arm. “You know you suck at lying, right?” I raised an eyebrow in a knowing fashion before he laughed too and nodded. “Yeah, yeah I know… do you think you could talk to her for me?” He looked at me hopefully.

I was just about to say yes when I found my mind wander back to the lake house days we had earlier this year together… to the brown haired boy that I remember Hayley getting really close to… she was talking about him just last week actually… I should probably bring that up with her…

I also probably look really stupid to Ryan, who was still waiting for me to answer his question. I shot him an apologetic look before answering. “Umm… I would Ry, but you should know, I think her heart is with someone else at the moment.”
